Resident Evil On Rails

I was very excited when I heard about Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. I thought it would satisfy my craving for Resident Evil until Resident Evil 5 is released. I'm sad to say that it turned out to be disappointing.

First off, I enjoy on rails shooters. This brings a new element to Resident Evil, and with the Wii Zapper this game should be a blast (no pun intended). The problem stems from the fact that this game is truly made for two players. Yes, there is a single player mode but it's frustratingly difficult even on Easy Mode. I actually enjoy challenging games, but after replaying the same level over and over again to only finally scrape through it by the skin of your teeth, the game just becomes unenjoyable. At one point I even tried to play as two players by myself, which is fine for shooting but fails in dodging.

Ugh...dodging. The dodging in Resident Evil 4 was implemented much better. In RE: UC, the dodging is inconsistent. Sometimes it responds great and other times it doesn't. Sometimes you're required to shake the nunchuck and it's a hit or miss whether or not the game will register your dodge, even if you're timing is fine and you're shaking the nunchuck like mad. At times it's probably quite comical to watch because it looks like you're having a fit.

If you have a friend or relative to play this game with, I actually would recommend it. It would go from being close to impossible to just a regular challenging game. If you'll only be playing this by yourself, I'd highly recommend skipping it even if you are a die hard Resident Evil fan.
