After previously owning the
Remington Deluxe PG-200 Trimmer for a few years I felt it was time to upgrade. I was pretty happy with the older model but I was curious to see if a new one would offer better performance.
This model runs around the same price as the old one when it was first released but has some nice improvements. The base can actually hold all the attachments properly and features a plastic cover to hold everything in securely.
The trimmer itself is a bit larger than the older Remington but still fits well in your hand and has an acceptable noise level when turned on. With the new trimmer you can run the power cord thru the bottom of the base and plug your trimmer into the base, or instead, keep the base seperate and simply plug the power cord into the trimmer.
This is nice because when you put the trimmer in the base it can become more prone to be knocked over, so you can still charge the unit without having to stand it up. For me, laying it flat is a much safer option as I have limited space and animals who often knock it over.
Overall, this model is a bit larger than the previous, however the basic attachments remain the same. It comes with a facial hair trimmer, nose hair trimmer, electric razor and a new larger, wider facial hair trimmer. Also, two gaurds are included for their respective trimmers.
The new wider sized trimmer is very handy as before the only trimming attachment was quite small. The small trimmer included is still fairly handy for side burns, while the larger one is much more effecient with goatees and such.
Like the previous Remington, all the attachments do their job as good, if not better than before. The trimmers seem a bit more powerful as well. A real noticeable improvement is with the electric razor, though. The previous one was pretty much useless while this one can effectively clean up any spots missed shaving, or to clean up any five o'clock shadow instead of using a real razor again. I would recommend a shaving oil like King of Shaves to help when using the razor attachment as it helps performance greatly.
The one dissapointment is the gaurds are a bit of a headache. They don't stay on the trimmer well, and when adjusting the length they tend to come off. Eventually you get them on correctly and they stay put, but they seem poorly designed this time around. Its not horrific, but a bit annoying at times.
Overall, a step in the right direction for those who want a trimmer but don't want to pay a lot for this. The entire unit will run under $20 at most stores. It wasn't a huge improvement from the prior model in terms of accessories or options, but the blades seem to cut better. Overall, a great product for those looking to get a decent trimmer on a budget.
