Author's Review
After 6 reliable years of using my original Remington rechargeable shaver, the little machine finally reached the end of it's time. It really put up a fight for those last few weeks, trying it's best to keep the little motor going. But in the end, it was time to purchase a new one. Of course I had to stick with the Remington shaver because of the many years of reliable, everyday use I got out of my very first one.
I headed to my local Wal-Mart to find myself a new MicroScreen, and after much browsing and contemplation, I decided to stick with the same type of shaver as my original - a rechargeable. The price of my new MicroScreen 2 DA-307 was not too bad at $70 (Canadian) and the design is quite nice with a slightly angled head and shiny silver color.
What's great about the MicroScreen 2 is it comes with a 30 day money back guarantee. If for any reason you are not satisfied with the shaver, or have skin irritation problems when using it or any other problems, you can return it! Simply take it back to the retailer from where you purchased it along with the receipt within 30 days of the purchase date, and you will receive a full refund (most retailers will honor this guarantee, call Remmington at 1-800-736-4648 if you have any problems or questions).
If you have never used a MicroScreen 2 shaver before, or you have just purchased a new one, keep in mind it takes a few weeks for your skin to get used to the shaver. It only took me a few days to get used to mine because I have been using one for years, and I even have very sensitive skin. The shaver also has a built in push-up trimmer that allows you to trim beards and stubborn long hairs. Just be careful with it, it is very sharp! It can leave quite the nice little red mark if you nick your skin.
When using your shaver, it is a really good idea to clean the cutter blade often since I have found it much more effective that way. It is very easy to clean. Simply remove the top of the shaver, and use the little brush that comes in the package to clean the blade. The instructions also recommended that your face be clean and dry before using it, and wait at least 15 minutes after you get up before you use it. Also don't push too hard when using the shaver as that will make it less effective and wear out the cutter blades faster.
Possibly the best part about the shaver is the battery. After a 14 hour charge, the battery can last up to 3 weeks according to the safety instructions. Although I have found the battery does last for a long time, it does become less effective as the battery weakens. So generally I will recharge my shaver about once a week. You can certainly use it for a lot longer than just one week on a charge, but it may take a little longer to get a full shave.
Overall the Remington MicroScreen 2 Rechargeable Shaver is a very effective and high quality product. Based on my past experiences with my first Remington, I'm quite confident that my new one will last at least as long as my old one did (6+ years), or even longer!
Certainly the shaver is not a perfect device. Even after years of use I still nick my skin from time to time, and encounter a few stubborn and difficult to shave hairs, but for the convenience and general ease of use it is well worth the price. The MicroScreen is a very reliable product and I recommend it to anyone who is shopping, or considering shopping for an electric shaver.
