Author's Review
From the moment I saw Adam Duritz for the first time, I fell in love with his voice. I have had a love affair with his fellow bandmates ever since. Recovering the Satellites, in my opinion, is the most cohesive and intelligent recording by the Counting Crows. Ever song is a gem and somehow manages to exhibit simultaneously both power and grace.
"Long December" received commercial success but, is just one of the many solid songs here. "Goodnight Elizabeth" is my favorite track. The tale of longing after a lost love is universal. The line "we couldn't all be cowboys, so some of us are clowns" brings chills every time.
Not a two chord band like so many that have plagued the charts in recent years, this band is filled with talented musicians. Adam's voice is soothing and magical. The String arrangement in "Daylight Fading" and "I'm not Sleeping" are well orchestrated. The use of some unusual instrument also add to the sound.
The liner notes show the band in the studio recording. The greatest experience is to see these men live. They are touring this year with the Pennsylvania band, Live. This is definately a concert not to miss. Both put on an amazing show. Don't regret missing this one.
In 20 years, the Counting Crows will be remembered as one of the greats of our generation. Deservingly so.
