Like All Sequels...........

by  JBduckling ,  Mar 4, 2001

Pros: An Accurate Description of life in 1969
Cons: A bit dated.
The Bottom Line: While a sequel is never as good as the first, Updike's imagery makes this a must read. Read "Rabbit, Run" first, you'll need the background.

Review: Rabbit Redux is not nearly the classic, "Rabbit, Run" was. John Updike, one of America's premier authors, gave me a taste of true literature in the first novel. I expected more in the second, and was a bit disappointed.

Harry "Rabbit"...

Rabbit's a Reactionary Racist

by  gstahl ,  May 22, 2003
20 out of 20 people found this review helpful.
Pros: Reading is a good thing right?
Cons: The sexism, the racism and the recycled plot.
The Bottom Line: The bottom line's just another of the billion c#nts here for Updike's (I mean Rabbit's) satisfaction.

Review: I m a sucker for slightly autobiographical novels written in a series. Charles Bukowski, Philip Roth, and Henry Miller (I m sure I m missing someone) I read with a certain voyeuristic glee. I can t say what it is about the memoirs disguised as...

Rabbit in a World of Cultural Dissidence

by  cyanne_t ,  Jun 29, 2004
14 out of 14 people found this review helpful.
Pros: Portrays the times and Rabbit with expertise. Written excellently.
Cons: Its portrait of the era is somewhat murky. The ideas inside are still controversial today.
The Bottom Line: An important book, and a definite read for anyone approaching Rabbit is Rich and Rabbit at Rest.
This reviewer recommends this product.
Review: At the center of John Updike's Rabbit books is singularly Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom. The novel revolves around him and does not condescend, pity, or cast a stern eye upon him for his various misconduct. Neither does it condone what he does. Rather,...

Rabbit gets his medicine

by  slickgl ,  Mar 8, 2007
10 out of 10 people found this review helpful.
Pros: Keeps you interested
Cons: Some parts get gratuitously graphic
The Bottom Line: This is a good book. I wouldn't recommend it to everybody, but if you like Updike and aren't easily offended, give it a shot.
This reviewer recommends this product.
Review: The sequel to Rabbit Run has Rabbit getting what he deserves. This time, his wife leaves him for a lover. The problem is that he doesn't care. Rabbit is so apathetic that, although everything bothers him, he does nothing about anything. This is a...
