Author's Review
We purchased this tub after our son was born and we had tried some terribly inferior competitors' tubs. In those he slipped down, howled and was miserable, but once we got the Primo Euro Bathtub everyone was happier! He is now 9 months old and LOVES sitting up by himself in the opposite end as he did in his infancy. I feel safe when I'm bathing him, and he rarely slips at all--when he does the tub helps him find his posture easily.
And that's the beauty of this convertible molded piece of genius. When he was too young to hold up his own head the center piece held his body up well, giving me two hands to focus on holding his head steady and bathing. He didn't slip, and had a small-framed body, so I always felt comfortable bathing him without other assistance. The angle that cups around an infant's body is perfectly rounded, and seems quite comfortable to the baby, as well.
Now that he no longer requires an angled tub we've flipped around to the other side & he grabs ahold of the center piece to steady himself. As he has gotten more comfortable sitting up on his own that center is there as a security which he only grabs when reaching for his rubber duckie that's floated to the other side of the tub. He splashes happily, reaches for the rounded contoured sides and enjoys bubble bathtime.
We chose to purchase this tub from babycenter.com & were fortunate to find the cool blue color. I am especially in love with the color. It's light & airy feeling, rather than sterile and hospital-like. You can see through the material, giving it a watery feeling even when it's empty.
There are two features that we very rarely use, but I guess make sense for some. The first is the drain hose. I have only used this once when my son got so very comfortable in his tub that he made a "poopie!" Rather than flip the tub over to dump all the water into the adult tub we had to do some fancy draining and wiping and cleaning to get out the unexpected company. Other than that one time I've just "tumped" the tub over to pour all the water into the big tub when bathtime is over. It's not at all heavy to do that, & I'm only 120#, 5'6". You just grab at the grip-end where the hook hole is & lift as the water pours down the big-tub drain.
The other product features I use infrequently are the two built-in dishes meant for holding soap, sponges, washcloths, etc. I tend to lay the washcloth over the big tub & keep our soaps & shampoos on the sides of the big tub, so I only occasionally stick something there briefly, in which case it is quite convenient. If I've poured shampoo on my child's hair I might rest the shampoo bottle in the tray/dish while I lather his hair. But, since I am dumping the tub out after every use I am always thinking of that space as just practical _during_ tub time. Still, the shape & size are quite reasonable for rubber duckie, or just about any other tub toy.
I have never hung this tub by the hook hole drilled into the handle end, but instead just lean it up against the shower wall, since we use the guest bathroom for all our boy's baths & we bathe in our own garden tub. Therefore, I cannot comment on whether or not it will hold the tub firmly, whether it is broad/large enough for any type of hook, or any other such comment. This tub is so light that it doesn't seem necessary to do anything other than lean it against the shower wall. Seems to be that it drains better on the angle, anyway, than it would hanging flat against a wall from a hook.
There are non-slip pads on all four corners of the base, and our narrow adult tub snuggly holds the baby tub as those pads keep it from slipping around.
As an added bonus my son has recently decided he likes playing with the tub _outside_ of the bathroom, and crawls in & out of it deftly. Even at 18# he doesn't tip it over, but barely gets it rocking back & forth. It's fun to see him explore it when it's dry.
The only real negative I've encountered so far is that it's contoured sides are too thick for a Sassy bathtoy I have that is supposed to click onto any tub. I can get it clicked on, but it takes some pinching, and so I've given up on that...but frankly I think that's more a comment on the Sassy toy (which I will likely review on here later) than the Primo Euro tub!
Also, the smooth one-piece contouring allows for easy cleaning. There are no click-in-place pieces that have to be removed & put back in place, no skid-free pads to get moldy with soap scum, and no adjusting angles to bother with.
I highly recommend this tub. No, it doesn't fit in a kitchen sink, or on many small kitchen counters, but it fits so perfectly into an adult tub that it's easy to sit right next to your child & bathe him/her from a comfortable seated position while you get him/her used to being in the space of the big-boy tub for later years!
