Author's Review
I had a friend (who sees me wearing my baby in a sling all the time) bemoan the fact that she was having a rough time with her sling. She said by the time she got the baby in and situated, he was screaming because it took so long.
She begged me to take it home and adjust it and teach her how to use it. I thought, "Why should I take it home?" and then I saw it ... the most complicated looking "sling" I've ever seen! By the time I figured it out (I've been baby-wearing for give years), *I* was practically screaming because it took so long!
I looked at the horribly designed adjustment strap and thought, "Why on *earth* did they use this instead of something like the Maya wrap rings? And when they chose this, why on *earth* did they make such a bad design?" It works far worse than overalls, swim goggles, and any other slide-type adjustment I can think of. It took me 5 minutes to get from her adjustment (which I can only guess was set for a lying-down carry, and was let out extremely long) to short enough to be "at hip level" as they recommend for hip-carries.
Then I tried to make sense out of the directions for the drawstrings (thinking, "Why one *earth* did they use drawstrings when a simple ring set-up allows for independent adjustment of sides in a much easier, quicker, safer manner?"), which said to tighten and then tie "a little bow" (a bow?! with a wiggling, restless, soon to be screaming baby we're pausing to tie a bow?!) to secure. TWICE - one for each side.
Finally, I figured out how I *think* it should be. I don't have the heart to tell her it was way too costly for something that works way less easily than even a NoJo padded-type ring sling, but it does do the job - once you figure it out. It's still very difficult to adjust, lacks a broad shoulder support (that's *got* to get uncomfortable after a few minutes), impossible to adjust while wearing, and very bulky (for folding into diaper bag or trying not to appear really conspicuous).
Give me Maya wrap (or any ring or pouch sling) any day!
