Addictive

Pros:  It is fun, in color, new features, new Pokemon

Cons:  Maybe to addictive, can't transfer old Pokemon with new moves to the older games!

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

This game is simply addictive. I thought Pokemon Yellow was addictive but Lord all mighty this game is even more addictive.

The point of this game is just like the other 3, catch all the kinds of Pokemon and defeat all the gym leaders to become the ultimate Pokemon master.

At first there 150 kinds of Pokemon, now it’s over 200 types. Not only did they add more Pokemon to catch but now its in total color.

There are also new features to be used which are listed below along with my impressions of each of them.

Pokegear:
This feature contains a map, a cell phone on which you can call other trainers, your mom, and even get called by people, it isn’t a real phone though, so you can’t actually call a real person. After a while is also has a radio in it that you get a little later in the game everywhere you go you can listen to different stations and even win a prize on a lottery if one of your Pokemon’s numbers is the lucky number. I also mention the lottery later on as it is tied into one of the game other features!

Mystery Gist:
You don’t get this feature from the start, you get after you talk to somebody in a certain town (I don’t want to ruin the surprise), what this does is if you get the new Pickahu GS 2, you can “give” watts to your cartridge which will turn into a a random item and will get put into your saved file, the more points you give, the better the prize. This feature only works on Gameboy Color though.

Clock:
This feature really makes this game awesome, when you first start the game it asks you to set the day and time, and it keeps the time for you. But this isn’t just a gimmicky worthless clock it actually alters the game. For instance certain characters only appear in certain areas at a specific day or time. For example in one town a woman appears in this huge store on Sundays and gives out a free prize. Also certain events only take place on a certain day, for example in one area of the game is a bug Pokemon catching contest that’s only held on certain days of the week. Also some Pokemon are nocturnal, meaning they only come out at night, and some Pokemon may only be seen during the day. Also the lottery mentioned has the new number every Friday making you check to see if you are the winner every Friday. The clock is my favorite new feature.

I also love the new animations they really make the game even more of a joy to play, and the color makes it more fun also, because it is easier to look at then the older blander looking games.

Now, all this is nice, but what about game play? It’s great. The control is simple and easy to use. The menus are organized well, and are also easy to use, I find all the items you need in the game are easy to find. They organize the items in the game into different categories, there is one area in the “pack” for pokeballs, and one for items such as potions. The way they put all this together is great. It “along with everything else” really makes the game a joy to play!

People who think they can just transfer all there Pokemon with high level over and breeze through the game will be in for a shock, you can’t even transfer over until a certain point in the game.

The only thing I don’t like about this game is that if you teach one of the original 150 Pokemon a new move from Gold, then you can’t transfer it back over to Yellow, Blue, or Red.

Say what you want about Pokemon, it's evil, stupid, corny, or whatever your view on it may be, it doesn't change that fact that I love this game!
