I have a few mascaras that I love but I keep trying others. I am looking for the holy grail of mascaras
the perfect one that will make me stop searching. I can tell you that
Philosophy Big Gorgeous Eyes Mascara is not the holy grail of mascaras. It is a decent mascara that does add some length and volume - but no drama.

The Packaging
This mascara comes boxed in the typical black and white Philosophy colors. The box shows an animated eye with long lashes and a mascara wand. The name of the product is on the front as well. As always, there is a little saying. This time it's "For when you need to lash out." That isn't as corny as most of their philosophical gems.
The tube is simple in black with the Philosophy name printed in grey. There is .29 ounce of product in the tube, around the same as most mascaras. The brush is simple and straight with bi-level bristles. There is nothing that makes the brush stand out from any other mascara I have tried.
My Experience
Knowing that Philosophy likes to go very, very natural with their cosmetics, I bypassed their first mascara called
The Supernatural Mascara because I knew it would be too subtle for me.
This one promises to add length and volume and to make your eyes look bigger and dramatic. That sounded great to me.
The mascara only comes in Black, my usual color.
I applied a coat of the mascara and it did, indeed, lengthen my lashes a bit. It added a little volume as well. A second coat amped up my lashes more but started producing clumps.
I stopped at two coats because I knew I would end up with clumpy lashes and have to remove the stuff and start all over again.
I wasn't overly impressed but not terribly disappointed. The mascara works decently and doesnt flake or run. It doesn't however, give me dramatic, super long lashes.
I would say that this mascara works about as well as a decent drugstore mascara but is not worth the $23.00 I paid for it.
If you are looking for a mascara that lengthens your lashes some and that adds some volume and looks fairly natural, this may be a good choice for you. If you want dramatic lashes with super length and volume, try
Cover Girl LashExact Mascara or
Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes! Mascara. Both are cheaper and work better than this mascara, at least for me.

Conclusion
While I wasn't wowed by this mascara, I wasn't super disappointed either. It's a decent mascara for day or for those who want to lengthen and add volume - but don't want a lot of drama. It does clump a bit but it doesn't flake or run and it removes easily with facial cleaner or make up remover.
But it's $23.00! I don't recommend this mascara. It's overpriced and is just average. You can buy average mascara for a few bucks so why pay a dramatic price for a non-dramatic mascara?
3 stars for yet another average offering from Philosophy's cosmetic line.
