Great for Privates and Underarms
Date of Review: Feb 24, 2007
The Bottom Line: Buy it and give it a try. You may become addicted to shaving certain areas you never thought of, were scared to, or did not know how to.
I have been using the BodyGroom regularly for approximately 3 months now and overall, it has been a worthwhile purchase.
The main reason I purchased this shaver was to clean shave the entire area around my penis, immediately above and below as well as my underarms. Most of my past girlfriends and well as my current one have discovered that it is a bad body design to have hair in that area—hair there is unclean, smells bad, is uncomfortable and interferes with some sexual activity. I agree.
While I have been shaving there for many years, it is now chic to do so and many men are doing it and the BodyGroom helps you do it. Prior to the BodyGroom, I used the Whal Trim N Vac which did the trick, but would at times cut and nick the shaft of my penis, which you can imagine does not feel good. The Wahl also did not allow you to shave smooth down to the skin. The BodyGroom allows you to shave the entire shaft of your penis and scrotum without a nick or cut all the way to the skin. You really don't feel anything and it follows the contours well.
When you shave though, especially when starting out for the first time, you must take your time! With any shaver, including this one, you have to get used to the direction of the hair and shave against the grain. It usually takes me about a half hour to shave the pubic area and underarms. I have never noticed any diminished power even after 30 minutes of continuous use. There is no battery power remaining meter on the razor, but I wish there was one. There is also no charge light on the razor—they put it on the adaptor. And it is best to shave after you had a shower, dried off and not wet. You can wash the razor under water and it is very easy to clean.
I hate that you have to go over certain areas multiple times with the BodyGroom to shave it smooth, but that is the nature of this razor. I rather have that, than one that will pull the skin in sensitive areas and cut you. I have shaved up and down the penis shaft in one area repeatedly to get some hairs and did not get any nicks or cuts. On the average, I usually shave the area above the penis one time a week and the rest of the pubic area every two weeks, more often if I am planning a special date with my girlfriend.
Until I got the BodyGroom, I just trimmed, but did not shave smooth the hair above the penis. Now I am able to shave it down to the skin almost all the way up to the belly button. What I do not like is that sometimes after shaving this particular area above the penis, I get an irritation. It does go away after a few days and does not reoccur often. That is a small price to pay for the benefit of not having hair in that area. (It could just be my skin sensitivity and this may not happen to you.)
For those men reading this that have never shaved in this area, you may want to give it try—I wish I starting doing this 25 years ago. You may notice that you feel sexier, there is less irritation to the head of the penis caused by the course pubic hair, your underwear feels more comfortable, you feel better about your appearance and many women prefer this and they will immediately conclude that you take care of your hygiene and yourself. (Expect it to feel weird at first, like you are 10 yrs old again, but you get used to it and will probably want to keep it shaved.)
Women have been shaving that area for years, now it is time for men and the BodyGroom allows you to safely do that. Gone are the days that women thought a man was gay for shaving there, it now turns women on. And for some women, it is mandatory even if they don't say so. Good luck.
PS: I know that you can also shave your entire body with this shaver, but that is not primarily what I use it for.
