Author's Review

Since my Mitsubishi 55" TV quit working two months ago, I have been researching replacements. There are to many choices, however, since I was a Philips employee for 37 years, I leaned in that direction. I bought this TV at BJs for $1900 and am very pleased. The picture quality was as good as any of the major brands when compared side by side in the store. I could not see any evidence of smearing because of the response time of 6 ms. The colors are very accurate even from the extreme side angles. There are several input choices among them, 3 HDMI inputs which I wanted. Although it has an input for a PC, I have no reason to use it. It was also cheaper than the Sony and the Sharp which also had very good pictures. Set up at home was easy, no problems at all. I stayed away from plasmas because of the possible burn in issues and the DLP since I wanted to mount it on the wall and did not want to have to worry about the replacement bulbs. My TV runs about 10 hours each day. Some might want it to set completely down on the base without exposing the mounting post. This is just a preference and not a criticism. I agonized over the Olevia because of the price, $1500 and the size "55" at CompUSA. I was scared of several things although, I really wanted the "55" size. The issues that I struggled with were the power consumption (385 watts), the weight (187 lbs.), and the bankruptcy of the company. This could be a warranty concern and the store did not give me adequate answers to this. Anyway summing up, I have no regrets with the Philips TV and believe I made the correct choice.
