Product Review

very, very nice

by   tallcoolman ,   Aug 26, 2006

Pros:  sharp image, outstanding color reproduction, bright, quiet

Cons:  no built-in component inputs, no problem, just buy a VGA-to-component adapter cable

The Bottom Line:  An outstanding projector at an unbelievably reasonable price.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

This projector is an all around powerhouse. With 1024x768 native resolution, it works naturally well with a PC, but also works beautifully for 480p movies. There are lots of native 16:9 projectors out there but the MP620 has the advantage of doing a natural unmodified 4:3 (UNSTRETCHED) aspect ratio for TV and still doing 16:9 mode beautifully. I'm so glad I went this route. It is supposed to also support some HDTV formats but I can't speak to that because I don't have an HD receiver yet. Seeing ultra-sharp images from the PC in 1024x768, I have no doubts that it would at least do an awesome 720p. Even a standard 4:3 TV image from the RCA input on this thing looks good at 85"! The brightness, at 2200 lumens, is bright enough to watch TV during the middle of the day with poor light control like I have in my living room. After seeing 2200 lumens in action, I would not recommend anything less than 2000 lumens if you have poor light control. Read the specs carefully before buying any projector - so many models out there are only 1100 lumens! Another spec to watch, if the company admits to it, is the noise rating (29dB maximum for the MP620). The projector sits just a couple feet behind my couches and just barely above ear level (my ceiling fan prohibits a ceiling mount), and noise is simply not an issue! Only if you watch a silent film with no sound at all would you notice any minimal fan noise. I'm very pleased with this product after about 100 lamp hours of use so far. Before buying this projector I already owned a Benq 17" LCD flat screen monitor (FP731), which is equally great quality - nice sharp image and NO dead pixels anywhere. So I felt safe buying another Benq product, and I'm glad I did. Keep up the good work, Benq.
