Author's Review
Are you having a bad day ironing? Then when you get done with your iron, you have this long cord that always gets in the way and you don't know where to put it. It is bad enough that ironing is such a time-consuming chore. Then you have to worry about where you are going to put this, the iron just sits on the shelf and has a long cord hanging all the way down the wall and is always getting in the way. I got tired of this happening, so I went to the store in search of an iron that had a retractable cord. I found this attractive looking iron at Kmart for $25, it was made by Panasonic.
Description
The iron as a whole does not weigh very much. It only weighs 2.75 pounds. Plus you can run this off a regular on 120 V. service, and the temperature will range from 176°F to 392°F. The dimensions of this iron are just like the usual ones, it stands 5 1/2 inches tall and 4 1/2 inches wide by 10 1/2 inches deep. It has a metal shoe on the bottom of the iron that will cover approximately 8" x 4" in diameter. There are several holes in the bottom for the steam to escape. The color of the iron is basic off-white. It has two knobs at the top, one white and one gray, the gray one controls the spray, and the white one controls the steam. At the bottom is an area that you can see where the retractable cord will windup went you are done using iron. There also is an orange yellowish light that will light up when the iron is being heated up. That is located on the right side or less depending on which side you are looking at. But if you hold it in your right hand it will be on the left side of the iron. It also has a blue green plastic area that you could tell if the water compartment is full, the capacity of this compartment is only 7 ounces, when you fill it with water. Right on top of this blue plastic area is a dial where you can set the heat setting on the iron. There is a white dial off setting, plus you start out with warm, and it will range one through 6, till it is very hot. There are several different features that are offered on this model. The ones that are on this iron include a three way auto shut off switch, adjustable steam, pushbuttons steam/dry selector, non-stick coating, spray mist, and an automatic retractable cord reel. To get this Court to retract all you have to do is push a button on the lower back side of it and cord will retract in side the bottom of the iron.
Other Features Offered
Other features, that come on different models include jet of steam/self-cleaning, vertical steam, anti-calcium system, curved soleplate, detachable water tank, cordless, 1400 W, electric temperature control, all temperature steam/dry cleaning, heat resistant carrying case, retractable cord on the charging base.
Typical Uses
I have been using this iron for several years and have used it to iron anything from hankies, curtains, sheets, uniforms, shirts and pants, and wash rags. I usually spray little bit of starch on whatever it is that I am ironing and with the steam included with this it does an excellent job. You thing that my wife does not like me to starch is her underwear. She was wondering why it was getting a little itchy down there. I asked her why she never said anything to me. And she said to me that she did not know that I was starching her underwear.
Advantage
There is a very nice advantage of having the retractable cord reel, in the olden days the court would just hang around and it was cloth covered and it would get damaged very easily. The nice thing about this iron is that when you are done, you push a little button and the cord retracts to the bottom of the iron. This way the cord is protected at all times. The other nice advantage about the steam on this model is that will allow you to select whatever amount of steam that you want for the project you are about to begin you can use the regular steam for the heavier fabrics and a light steam for just touchups. You also have the choice to use a dry eye in or you can use to spray and used the mist to get the wrinkles out.
Disadvantages
There is only one disadvantage that I can find out about this iron, and that is about the nonstick coating on the soleplate, in one hand it makes it easier for ironing, but on the other hand, this will scratch off, if you run over a snap or something rough like that.
Warranty
The warranty on this is only a one-year warranty. That is not a very long warranty, but I guess you don't need one any longer, because you probably only use this once a week.
Overall Recommendation
I am very happy with this iron that Panasonic makes, especially because of the retractable electric cord. I do not have to worry anymore about the cord getting damaged. The only thing that I have to worry about is the heat that it puts out. So that a child does not touch it, you just have to make sure that you put it up before they come running around. I have been using this for a couple of years and have not had any problems with it. I would highly recommend this to anybody that does iron.
