In the right direction for multi-line cordless.

May 28'01 Update:
After several months of use, here's a quick update. The BASE needs a MUTE BUTTON!! I can't stand not having the option to MUTE when on speakerphone. Also, there's no way to edit the tel# and name from caller ID when storing into memory. In other words, you must save and then go back and edit. Otherwise, the phone is living up to standards.

Let me start off by stating I have both the Siemens 2 line 2.4Ghz system as well as the Panasonic 4 line system. I've been able to make comparisons between both and would like to see the next model line carry certain features.

The Panasonic phone is a good SOHO (Small office Home Office) phone system. Each handset can have its own vmail as well as phone directory. However, you can send either individual names or the entire directory to the base station or any other handsets. The Siemens allows for this function. Each line can have its own distinctive ring as well as call privacy for each line. There's never a good time when someone accidently begins dialing when you're on the line. Which also makes it difficult for anyone else to jump on the line. You'll need to either conference them or transfer the call to other handsets.

The reception and voice clarity is what I expected from a 2.4Ghz system so I can't say much that. I've had no problems with either phone when it comes to reception. I haven't tested the range only b/c I don't walk too far from the base station.

Here's another feature that's lacking on the Panasonic. You can't lock the keypad. I've accidently called others or pressed the key on the phone enough to annoy me. So I give Siemens another point for a simple feature.

In the end, the Panasonic system is the only phone that provides 4 lines with a 2.4Ghz cordless set. I highly recommend it for anyone with more than 2 lines!!
