Author's Review
The Tungsten E is my first Palm and I am very happy with it. Small, reliable, and much memory is only part of what this machine can do. The Tungsten has so many features.
MP3- The Palm has MP3 playback. All you need is a card for your palm and you can download songs. Look on Techbargains.com for great deals on cards. Anyways, I have the card and the MP3 playback works well. I can hold around 30 songs with 128mb card. The palm has a small speaker on the back of it. If you are going to use this feature you should really use the Real One player, which I think is the only thing you can use. You download Real One on your Palm and your computer. Then you transfer the songs from Computer to your Palm. To do this, Real One has to be open on both devices. If you need help just leave a comment and I'll try to help you. Anyways, there is a headphone jack that you can have headphones in and listen to it that way. This feature is amazing.
Documents to go is an amazing program. It contains Word, Excel, and Power Point. It is very useful if you have a keyboard. If not, it is a huge waste of time just typing on the palm. It takes forever. These programs are amazing for a Handheld. They all work very well on your Palm. In Word, the only disadvantage is that you can't spell check. Once you put it on your computer you will be able to spell check. Excel is a spreadsheet, which is very small, but you still have the ability to see it. PowerPoint I have not figured out, but I'm sure you can use the manual and figure it out.
Contacts- Lose all your phone numbers? Well, with the E you wont anymore. You can insert e-mail, work, work #, home#, and much more. It is a very nice program. I have many contacts so if I want to call somebody I take a peak in to my Palm and give them a call. It really is a good thing for keeping.
Expense- You can tell how much money you have spent. You simply make some categories and then add your expenses with the amount of money you paid. You can keep track for years. It can become your own checkbook. There are other payable programs for keeping track of the Credit Card bills.
Calendar- The calendar is great for keeping your life organized. If you are always forgetting your relative's birthday you can enter it in a year before and it will remind you soon before the birthday that it is going to occur. It has a list of times where you can input your daily schedule and will remind you of your tasks. This is also helpful for an assignment or homework.
Photos- This is a great feature. The photos can be really beautiful on the Palm. You can' take photos but you can transfer them onto your computer. You can show all your friends. You can have photos of your children on your Palm or have any photo you need to get you through the day. This is fun because you can choose to have a slideshow, which displays all of your pictures. You can also just click on them individually.
Video Player- This is the feature you might want to skip. You need to have a card. You can transfer videos to your palm. It can be movies or whatever. The problem is it eats up all the space and really is not worth it. You could have some trailers or TV shows but that's about it. Nothing else. This is a pretty useless feature unless you are desperate for a video clip.
Dialer- I have tried this. When you are connected to a Cell Phone it can give your Palm a phone capability and Internet capability. I have not tried the Internet, but the phone works. This is also pretty useless because this Palm is not really made to go on the Internet. It is very hard and requires much difficulty. So, if you were planning on using this for Internet you might want to use your computer.
Calc- The calc has some advanced buttons, but really is pretty simple. It has the % sign and the square root sign, but besides that it's simple. There are more calculators you can download for maybe a little bit of money.
Note Pad- Scribble in some notes or right where something is in the Note Pad. You can use the keyboard or you can just use the graffiti feature, which I will explain later. You can write all the things you know you will forget.
Graffiti- The Graffiti feature is hard to use. If you practice it you will get used to it. There is space for writing in like you do normally, but the palm doesn't listen to it unless you follow the right things for it. You need to draw and r by starting at the top and then drawing the curve. There is an option where you can ask for help on how to use Graffiti. This is very helpful if you forgot how to write a letter. The Graffiti feature is only OK for writing. If you really like this feature you should get another Tungsten because they are better for Graffiti.
Palm Case- The silver casing of the Palm is very thin and fragile, so you need to be careful not to drop the Palm. The Case is nice and at the top reads Tungsten E and Palm. This is very cool.
Hot Sync- This is the program for Backing up and transferring your files. This is a fairly slow process if you do things in large quantities. There is a pretty fast pace for transferring your things though. You should leave the room and come back in a few minutes and then see if it is done. Don't stare at it till you get dizzy.
Overall I love this Palm and I think it is a great deal. The programs listed are the ones on the Palm. There are many payable games and programs. The graphics for the games are good. This Palm is really amazing.
