2nd Best Chili Album ever
Pros:
Every track rocks; abundance of great, real rocking; variety to every single track
Cons:
One Big Mob is only "really good" instead of being "superb"
The Bottom Line:
This album is underrated, and it's a shame for everyone that's missing out on its greatness. Rock on Red Hot Chili Peppers!

Author's Review
Although many may disagree with that statement, that "One Hot Minute" is the Red Hot Chili Pepper's second best CD (Next to their ground-breaking Blood Sugar Sex Magik), I have to think this is true. This CD is not only fantastic to listen to, but I enjoy every single track as well, and for that to happen with a CD, that CD must rock hard. Many consider this album the Red Hot Chili Pepper's most underrated album, which is a shame, since its so freaking good.
Good things:
When I heard the album Californiacation, I just didn't want to marry it like everyone else did. I didn't like Scar Tissue that much, and there were only a few tracks (Otherwise, Right on Time) that made this CD ok. But if there was one complaint about that album, it was that everything sounded...the same. I mean sure, you got the smooth, laid back song Porcelain, but that was pretty much it. All it was was rocking out hard. That's certainly not a bad thing, but it made the CD suffer from sameness.
Even though the partial repetition isn't half as bad as some of the new "music" released these days, they should've taken a note from "One Hot Minute." The reason why "One Hot Minute" succeeds is due to its variety between each and every song. Not only that, but every single song also happens to rock hard as well. You get started with the first track, Warped, which starts off all soft and quiet, and then BAM! You literally have an explosion of sound that nearly knocked me out of my chair. The same thing also happens on the even better track, Deep Kick, where in the beginning you have Anthony going on about his life for a minute or so and then BAM! The crazy track starts and Anthony screams louder than the guitar itself!
Some other tracks that are good are...the rest of them. Probably some of the more familiar ones are "Aeroplane, My Friends, and Pea," but if you actually listen to the whole album and not just the singles, you'll find that this is a treat for the ears. Every song is chock fulled with guitar solos, and the rocking bass part, and Anthony screaming his heart out. And every once and awhile, there'll be some quieter moments, as seen in "Tearjerker and Walkabout" before you get to the song "One Hot Minute," which will blow your ear drums out if you don't turn your CD player down. The lyrics are also original as well. With every band these days, all they do is whine and complain about life. My girlfriend left me, I left her car on her front yard, blah blah blah. Boring. Its such a relief to listen to lyrics that dont complain about everything in the world, and talk about simple things like going on a Walkabout.
Not so Good things:
Okay, so I lied. Everything single song is fantastic, with the exception of one, called "One Big Mob," which is still pretty darn good. And in that song, you have Flea making all of these crazy noises as the hypnotic guitar jams in the background. Great stuff indeed. The other thing that's not good is for all the people that didn't like this album. It's a shame to pass by this work of rock art.
The Verdict:
This CD is great. I can't see why not a lot of people like this CD. There's so much variety and greatness in it, and brings us back into the mid-nineties, when rock was still good. If you love the Red Hot Chili Peppers, then you must own their album. Next to their even more fantastic "Blood Sugar Sex Magik," its their second best album to date.
But if you, sadly, disagree, you have to admit this was better than "By the Way." That album was a disgrace.
