Product Review

great camera and really cool super macro

by   lastsnare ,   Feb 18, 2004

Pros:  price, super macro, resolution, manual controls, lithium battery and charger included, remote, available attachments

Cons:  no sound in movie mode if i had to nit-pick

The Bottom Line:  This is a great camera for 5 megapixel resolution at around $400, and with the super macro feature it's hard to beat it.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I purchased this camera from the electronics store at which I work (red logo and gray building, take a guess). Originally I was choosing between the Nikon 4300 and this one. I'm glad I picked the C-5000 because the Super Macro (not the same as the typical macro that comes on most cameras) is pretty darn cool. I like taking close-up pictures....well, I have a thing for taking pics of my eye in particular, but that's another story. The only other cameras which our store carries that do the same high quality close-ups are the Sony F717 and F828. So, for around $400 at most retail stores, I think it's a great camera, and the Olympus software isn't bad at all, just hard to figure out where the folder is that it puts your pictures in. The batteries aren't bad at all and the fact that you can add attachment lenses and an external flash is nice also. Resolution is very good, availability of manual controls like aperture setting and shutter speed are all reasons why I bought this camera. Lots of people whine about battery life and shutter lag. Let me tell you that any camera will have a shutter lag in low light and 2 or 3 hours of continuous use is the very best you are going to get with any digital camera, some HP cameras for example will bite the dust in 20 minutes no joke. I recommend it!!
