Blown away by the sound quality and convenience!

I have been involved with audio recording at home and professionally for the last 35 years. I have had experience with radio broadcasting equipment and sound recording in recording studios as an operator, engineer and service/installation/maintenance person.

I have owned several recording systems in my life, including high-end sound reproduction systems. The Olympus WS310M digital voice recorder is really a good piece of equipment that offers excellent fidelity on music plus you can record conferences/assemblies and dictation with excellent fidelity that will blow your mind.

It has plenty of memory (512 MB) for hours of music and if you leave space for voice recording you can record hours of conferences too. Then transfer the files to your computer as data files that you can modify to you need, according to the kind of audio manipulation software you own. Or simply xfer the file from the PC to a CD to listen to it in your car, etc.

Other features include the WOW system that expands your stereo spatial perception and pinpoint the bass information in your music - it is all done internally by tweaking with the stereo music's phase angle algorithms -(proprietary technology of SRS Labs Inc.) Also, you can monitor with earphones as you record so you can position the recorder where it picks up the best sound and less ambient noise.

The good thing about this unit is that it has a great sounding voice recording function plus an MP3/wma music playing that is outstanding.

I recognize that there are better systems out there that can do one of these functions better, but having the best of both worlds in one unit is nothing less than: Fantastic!

I bought this unit at a good price, I think, $128.06.
There is also a 1 GB unit that's costs more, of course.

It uses one AAA battery - lasts a long time.
The earphones that come with it are OK but not excellent.
