These Are Better for Grooming.
Date of Review: Feb 4, 2009
The Bottom Line: As long as you do not abuse these. They are an excellent tool for grooming.
I have been a dog groomer for several years, and found that using these muzzles have become a very invaluable part of my tools and accessories. Whenever a dog becomes unruly and just does not want to be groomed. This is an excellent device for protecting yourself from being bitten. In a matter of seconds, you can install this on any size dog that it will fit. I have found that the best fit for these particular muzzles are best suited for dogs between 15 to 25 pounds. You can find these at most pet stores for just under $10.
Description
With the exception of the plastic clip that is used to hold the muzzle in place, the whole unit is blue and green in color and made of nylon. Just simply place the strap around the neck and clip the buckle in place. The pet that you are grooming will not like this, but it is better to have protection than having to run to the emergency room and getting stitches. It is very simple to remove, all you have to do is squeeze the buckle and usually the dog backs its head right out of the muzzle. The dogs that usually wears this particular size, can weigh anywhere from 10 to 25 pounds.
Uses
They are very durable, since they are made up of nylon and plastic you can throw them inside of a washing machine on the cool cycle, and they are even versatile enough to throw in the dryer. They are very simple to release all you have to do is squeeze or pinch the buckle, and it pops free immediately. I prefer to use these as a device while grooming. I feel that if your dog is that unruly and has to have a muzzle while walking then you should not be walking around other people. Just to protect them from any potential biting hazards.
Training or Grooming
There are other ways to train your dog not to bark, other than putting a muzzle on, once in a while it is proper to use this, but not all the time. You can use any one of these on any type of animal but make sure that when putting one of these on your animal that you do not make it too tight or leave it on them too long. If you leave it on them too long, it will cause them to drool of their mouth and have their nose run. If you also abuse this muzzle and use it for other things that it is not intended for, you could stress your dog out and make matters worse.
Conclusion
I have been using these muzzles for years, but I've only had to have them on my clients pets for about 15 minutes at most. They do the job exceptionally, and I have never had to replace one of them.
