Author's Review
I'm glad I am not the type of guy who buys one shaver and declares from a mountain top that he will never try anything else. That would really be stretching it a bit especially with engaging high-tech electric shaver wars. The Philips XL HQ9170 Electric Shaver also known as the Philips Philishave SmartTouch-XL HQ9170 is ready to do battle against other electric shavers and the drippy manual razors all while cutting your facial hairs and leaving the skin underneath unharmed. The Philips XL is large and in charge with its flexible built-in "Aeroflex" 3 head shaving system that glides with the form of your face.
The Philips XL is easy to use and I think it works best after exfoliating my face then allowing it to dry. Exfoliation not only takes away the dead skin cells from my face it also frees my face of any ingrown hairs ultimately reducing the amount of time I have to go over an area with the shaver. My new routine for shaving is to wait until the kids are in bed so there are no interruptions. The quite shaver provides a thorough shave leaving my face smooth and soft. My skin is sensitive and the shaver has a to adjustable sensitivity control on the side that fine-tunes the heads force. In the end, it gets pretty close to a regular wet shave, just without the mess. I've used it almost daily since receiving it on February 14, 2006 and have not experienced any skin irritation, razor burn or problems.
Besides getting a good close dry shave it is cordless so there is no messy cord to wrap around the shaver when Im done. It is rechargeable Lithium Ion battery that holds a charge well over an hour. There are no fluctuations in power when using it. My shaving time is usually 20 to 30 minutes. It takes an hour for a full charge, but must of the time I do a 3 minute quick charge never having to completely recharge it like my MP3 player. That fact that I'm not constantly recharging it, is a big improvement when compared to some of the older shavers that take a night and forever to recharge.
The Philips XL is designed to keep the man in control. The curved contour and solid weightless fell, makes it easy to maneuver and hold. Its solid durable design takes the usual bathroom fumbles without any problems. Its multi-purpose LCD charge controls are aesthetically pleasing however I don't it preferring the generic grab-and-shave method. I've popped up the trimmer, to see if it works, but I have not used them. Initially, I left the shaver on its charge stand until my curious 3 year-old tried to use it. I think he liked the attractive charging display and blue back-light. Now I store it in the travel pouch that came with it. This pack-and-go shaver is ready for the road with a travel lock and worldwide voltage selection for those who travel abroad. As a final point there is no big problem with cleaning it, simply rinse if off and you are done.
That's it! I highly recommend Philips XL HQ9170 Electric Shaver giving it 5 out of 5 stars.
