A Nice Choice...

Date of Review: Jul 12, 2009

The Bottom Line:  I recommend the Nokia 6085 for basic calling, sending text messages, pictures, and bluetooth options. The phone has the nice little bonus of a camera, music player, and great durability.
Last year I made a choice for the Nokia 6085. It was one of the free cell phone choices offered by AT&T. I will be honest and say it has not been one of my favorite cell phones. But, it has been my favorite of the free phones offered by AT&T.

My favorite feature of the Nokia 6085 is the compact, rounded (clam shell) design. It is easy to hold and just feels comfortable all around. I've had the phone for one year. It has survived numerous hard hits and sudden drops. The case still looks great and remains tight with no loose pieces, hinges, etc.

When I first started using my Nokia 6085, I was disappointed with the ringing volume. It wasn't until about 6 months later, someone informed me that I could go into multimedia, music player, and then the equalizer menu, and choose 'Set 1' or 'Set 2'. This allowed me to customize the ringing volume to a very loud tone. I really think this is something that Nokia should include in the manual that comes with the cell phone. Many people would like to know this helpful hint.

The call quality on this phone was great. I live in an area that is all country. I rarely had a dropped call, and calls were almost always clear. When I left my home area, the calls were always crystal clear, full signal, and never a dropped call. This is an important quality in a cell phone for me because I do live so far away from any city or calling area.

The LCD screen on the Nokia 6085 is nice. No complaints there. It also has a small LCD screen an the outside, which for me was useless. It is dark and very hard to read. But, this was not a main problem area for me, as I never really needed it anyway. I never found any options to customize this.

Texting on this phone was a breeze. I never had any problems. The keys are easy, and have a great feel. For a smaller type flip phone, I never felt that anything on the phone was crammed.

The Nokia 6085 has the option for up to a 2GB Micro SD card. I purchased this at Walmart for around fifteen dollars. I was able to store more pictures, videos, graphics, and ringtones than I ever needed. It is also worth mentioning that the Bluetooth worked perfectly every time I needed it. There is a music player that works great and is a nice little added bonus. The included speaker phone is loud and clear. The battery life always seemed great. The camera was easy to access, but the picture quality wasn't the greatest. This also didn't bother me, as I have a digital camera that I carry along for most occasions anyway. The phone also takes short videos, but unfortunately, they cannot be sent via multimedia message. I assume that the phone doesn't have a big enough internal, built-in memory to support it.

I recommend the Nokia 6085 for anyone that uses a cell phone for basic calling, sending text messages, pictures, and bluetooth options. Used like this, the phone has the nice little bonus of a camera, music player, and great durability. The Nokia 6085, in my opinion, has been a nice choice.
