Great Wireless Router for the Price!

I've had this router for about 7 months now and find it to be quite nice. It looks good and performs well. Note that this is a Pre-802.11n router. Now that the standard is now final there may have been changes that may cause problems working with true 802.11 cards.

I found the configuration to be quite easy. I use it with both wired and wireless connections. My wireless PC connects with another Netgear 108Mb card to maximize the connection. I have also connected with cards from other brands without issue. I recommend buy Netgear hardware in order to maximize compatibility.

*NOTE* Make all changes to the router setting from a wired connection or risk being unable to connect to anything if you mess up a setting! Also be sure to change the default password to the router! *NOTE*

Once configured, the connection passes all probe tests from Shields Up! at grc.com.

I have wireless security set up to use authorized MAC addresses only. This prohibits unwanted connections. You may also use 128-bit WEP security with this setting for extra protection.

I have it loaded with the latest firmware and haven't had any connection drops or problems with range. Remember that your range is most affected by the things in your home and can vary greatly.

You should also be aware that many of cordless phones operate in the same 2.4Ghz frequency range. If you do have connection drops see if it coincides with phone calls. You *may* have to get a 900Mhz or 5.8Ghz phone to alleviate the problem.

Overall I am quite pleased with this router. I work on computers and associated equipment for a living so some may find configuring the router more difficult than I did.
