Introduction
Awhile back I was cassualy surfing through the gaming aisles of Wal Mart when I came across the gem of a game. Before finding this I only had Madden NFL 2002, do not get me wrong-it was a good game. Yet, upon finding this I look at Madden totally different.
I scanned the back of the game box, the graphics weren't great but I still grabbed a hold of it. I heard a few comments about it being a pretty good game so I picked it up for fourty bucks. When I popped it in I was amazed...
Graphics
The game features great graphics. The stands look nice, even in 2d. All around the arena looked like its real life counterpart, all the hash marks, people running around the sidelines etc. The player modules are some of the best in the games. The faces are spot on, a feat not even lovely Madden could do.
They are nearly seamless, everyone looks just right like their counterparts. The only problem I would have with it (and it is a small one) is that some player modules are...well...lanky. They lack their built up counterpart.
Sound
Some of the best sounds of the genre are heard in this game. The made up announcers do quite a job telling us about the players and the intros are nice. They give us the ups and down of each team, pinpointing weaknesess and pointing out extreme strengths. The main noise is the chatter at the line of scrimmage, the clatter of helmets add to the mouth watering sound.
Gameplay
Amazing... that is the only way I could put it. Being an old Madden junky it was hard getting used to this, but after FIVE minutes I never wanted to go back to Madden again. The passing game is simply superb, a decent qaurterback can go up the ranks with precision passes. Your recievers make some awesome looking grabs in the air, getting hit around the heels and flipping still holding the ball.
Most of all the RUNNING game is delightful, and that IS ODD. It is fun to run up, spin, juke for a few more and just JET! It is amazing, but my FAVORITE part of the game is the defense. Tackles are smooth and silky, team tackles are lovely. Just GREAT!
The game itself has a multitude of options, Franchise, Fantasy Drafy, Season and the up. It is just freakin amazing. I still play it to this day.
Overall
Overall this is an awesome game for any gridiron lover to own, you just have to have this. Had this come out with Madden and Fever it would have brought them to SCHOOL!
