Good and Bad

The Bottom Line: Overall, this is a great unit for watching movies and video files. But, it is mediocre as a portable DVD player.
I bought this online and circuitcity.com for $69. (it was on sale). The unit performs well but not sturdy.
This is a very flimsy unit and if you are planning to buy it for kids think twice. May be buying 2-3 year replacement plan would help. Like most other portable DVD player, the play starts when you close the DVD drive door. The DVD door panel is so weak that it would loose to the toys that come in a happy meal when it comes to quality.
This is definitely not for kids. My daughter took the DVD door off and handed it over to me (she is only 2 ? year). So if you are planning to buy it for small kids, don't let them operate it (well.. is difficult, at least try not to let them operate) if you want to use it for sometime. Since this happened within their 90 day guarantee period, I was able to send it back for a replacement. Musket customer service is not top of the line, but it works. I got the replacement unit back in 3 weeks. The LCD display is not that great. So is the audio quality.
This could be your cheap unit for traveling. Here's where I love this unit. This unit can play most of the common video formats. I threw a couple of mpg files in a CD, and the unit was able to play it. I tried divX, xVid etc and all of them worked. This is a great way to watch movies and video without having to convert them and burn into DVD format to watch on your TV. No need to dangle your laptop near your TV anymore. The battery charge stays for little over 2 hours.
