Definitely a quality product
Date of Review: Dec 23, 2003
The Bottom Line: The MTX Thunder 4244 is a quality product with good features, excellent sound quality for the money you spend, good power, and Quality that is expected of MTX.
Had the MTX Thunder 4244 for about a year now. Was initially nervous about its performance as i had never previously owned a MTX product, but that quickly gave way as i quickly realised i had purchased a high quality and reasonably priced product. I initially used it to power 4 pioneer speakers all rated at 60 watts rms. It did this immaculately. The speakers gave excellent sound reproduction with piercing highs and deep bass even with the head units volume near the maximum level.
What impressed me more though was recently when i decided to upgrade my subwoofer to a JL 12W0. My subwoofer amplifier couldnt properly power the larger sub, so rather than buy a new sub amp amp i decided to bridge the rear channels of my MTX amp to power the new subwoofer. I wasnt expecting much (The power ratings of the amp (4x45) arent impressive) but i was shocked at the SQL i was getting from the sub.
So the MTX Thunder 4244 is a powerful little amp with suprisingly versatility. The front (Full range and high pass) and rear (low, full and high) cross overs allow for the fine tuning of the system. Also i have never known this amp to get hot even though i tend to work it rather hard. Like all MTX products it isnt necessarily cheap, but i am of the opinion that the amp is more than the sum of its parts.
