Definitely up to par...

The Bottom Line: This game is mostly unique and it is worth the purchase. It's far more than just a time buffer until D.S.II comes out. Go buy it today!
From the time I anxiously ripped the shrink wrap off this package, I was eagerly anticipating the battles ahead. In most ways I wouldn't be disappointed. This sequel is moderately different from the original. The haunting music score isn't as unique and some of the characters actions are somewhat duplicated, but if you can put up with the few shortcomings, then you'll be in for a thrill.
The new backpack item offers you more storage. Outfit all your players with one and you won't even need a burdensome beast to carry all your hoard.
Your main mission is to seek out and find the 'Staff of Stars' which will take the whole of the game. In your adventures you will come across lots of treasures, and you should always be in ample supply of mana and health potion. The potential party members that you meet along the way you don't have to purchase to add to your ever growing 'team'. Najj is the most impressive fighter by far. His strength is unparalleled anywhere.
Another new part of this game is putting Set Items together. In the single player game there is six sets of items and in the multi-player game there is fourteen. What these sets do, as completing, is to increase the initial values for the total items that you have in that set.
All-in-all it makes for a great romp and I love the end part, fighting the Elementals and the Shadow Jumper. He's the one who has the Staff of Stars, so you must defeat him and then win the game. A much tougher end boss than Gom of Dungeon Siege 1 and hair-pulling, teeth gnashingly frustrating. But isn't that what a good game is supposed to be about?...
