Mary Poppins
Date of Review: Feb 28, 2000
I remember going to the drive in and watching this movie when it first came out. I fell in love with it then, and I have loved it ever since. The story starts with two terrible (?) children who have run off every nanny their mother has hired for them. So their father decides to take over the job of hiring a nanny for them. The children write a description of what they think a good nanny should be, but the father has much different ideas. Well with a little magic the message of the children reaches Mary Poppins (played by Julie Andrews), who flies in to their rescuer. Much to the alarm of the father, Mary gets herself hired, and the adventures begin. With the help of a chimney sweep (played by Dick Van Dyke) the adventures include such things as a trip through a fascinating cartoon world, flying over rooftops singing and dancing, a wonderful laughing, floating tea party, and of course the trip to the bank. The music including such wonderful songs as Chim Chim Cher-ee and A Spoonful of Sugar will stay on your lips for a long time after the movie ends.
