Author's Review
I am a huge Nintendo fan. Eventhough I am an adult, I still like the kiddie family games. The Mario Party series has always been a fun one because there is a variety of games for every age to enjoy. So naturally, when this game became available, I had to get it.
While I do not think that this is the best Mario Party around, Mario Party 8 is the game that lasts a long time. There is a lot of variety and challenges you will encounter, it's not the type of game you can beat in a week. It offers over 50 minigames, which you have to play and win them to earn them.
Mario Party 8 is a challenge in itself when you are a new Nintendo Wii player. It can be kind of difficult to get used to actually moving the remote and nunchuck around, as opposed to using a classic controller.
In Mario Party 8, you can choose to be one of 12 of your favorite characters. It does not make a difference if you are playing with one or four players, it will replace the others with the computer players, and you can choose their difficulty, depending on how big of a challenge you want.
At first you will need to play a board game to earn the minigames. You can select the amount of turns you will all take, with the minimum starting at 10. Even 10 turns can turn into a long game, so make sure you have plenty of time to play. You will also earn coins in every game you play which you can spend for virtual rewards in the game.
The game has a lot of talking in the beginning, explaining your choices of what you can do in the game. After the first couple of times it gets really annoying, so I recommend just hitting the button to skip this. Otherwise, it lasts like 5-10 minutes.
I would recommend this game to any Wii player. It can be set to a number of difficulties, making it fun and challenging for the whole family. There is no crude humor in this game, which makes it appropriate as well. It is well worth the $50 I paid, and will be playing it until the next comes out!
