Author's Review

Before I bought the 400 I owned the Explorist 100. It was perfect, no problems but I wanted to upgrade. I am an avid geocacher and explorer. I went back and forth between the 500 and 400, even looking at the Garmins. I read a lot of reviews and found that there were a lot of negative feedback on the 400 but I also found that those who wrote good reviews seemed to have read the manual and understood how Magellans work. I eventually decided on the 400 because I do not need the color the 500 has. I have used the 400 for about 3 weeks now and love it. There are no problems to speak of.

Both the 100 and 400 have great accuracy and I have NEVER had a problem finding satellites. I have been in the dense forest and urban areas- it works perfect. The geocache manager is great and I love the ease of the software.

Make sure you read the manual before installing the CDs, Take time to learn about your product and you should not have a problem.

The biggest gripe is with Magellan customer service, and yes I did call once for some other software trouble. It is not the best but if you are patient with them there is no problem. It may take a little longer to get what you want but I had no problems, and my software glitch was solved.
