WHAT IS IT?
Lucky is a Conde Nast magazine for women about shopping. It's ALL about trends in fashion, accessories, beauty and home. It's NEVER about features,celebrity endorsements, name dropping, or supermodels. Lucky's editorial mission states,"the best to buy in fashion, beauty and living- the voice of a friend you love to take shopping." Lucky was founded in 2002 and was the first magazine of this genre.

MY IMPRESSION
I'm a fan, and a subscriber from the inception. I think it's geared toward working women post college to ??? depending on your attitude. The featured items are current trends, but they're not overly trendy. You'll see everything from head to toe, from underwear to outerwear, and everything in between. ALL price ranges are represented. Makeup,and beauty products are well represented too, as are home fashions and extras like stationery.
MECHANICS
It's 8X10 which makes it easy to manage. Quality binding and paper, easy to read print. Monthly publication, well over 250 pgs each issue.
CONTENT
Table of contents is basically three categories: Fashion, Beauty, Shopping. Monthly features such as What I Want Now, My Foolproof Outfit, Beauty Spy, Shopping Report(feature online favorites, new boutiques), Shopping Trip (featuring a specific city). You won't find supermodels gracing the cover, but rather, successful, stylish women like Keri Russell or Mandy Moore. Plenty of style advice, how to's and up-and-coming designers.
MY FAVORITES
My personal favorite is the Lucky Breaks section placed at the last few pages of the magazine. It's like dessert after a fabulous dinner. Here you'll be treated to deals, discounts (usually 25%) and giveaways for Lucky readers. I also love to check out Our Obsession which features 10 items and what makes them special. Of course as always, pricing and buying info is provided.
FUN GIMMICK
They provide a page of stickers (like post it notes) to tag your favorites. Each month the stickers are hues of a specific color and they even allow your to prioritize your must haves, and maybes, with tags marked YES! or MAYBE? Yes, I actually use these.
USEFUL IDEAS
Maybe you love those really high waisted pencil skirts, but you're not sure how to wear this trend to the office. You'll get plenty of ideas on how best to incorporate trends into wearable fashion.

WHAT IT'S NOT
It's NOT a publication which will enlighten you, or bring about social awareness(although breast cancer pink ribbon items appear monthly). It doesn't pretend to be.
BOTTOM LINE
I carve out about 20-30 minutes a month to leaf through each issue page by page. I use those stickers and generally follow through with an item or two which can usually be found online. I always take advantage of the Lucky Reader deals because 25% is a nice little discount. I'm a stationery geek and have found some really cool paper goods. It's fun and I like everything this publication has to offer.
