Author's Review
This movie also was creepy. It also did have one or two humorous parts too thanks to Edgar and Alan Frog {Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander}.
Again a wonderful casting job was done with this movie. Kiefer Sutherland plays David, who is believed to be the head vampire. This movie was also directed by Joel Schumacher, who in my opinion is a great director as he has been the director for most of my favorite movies.
It is a modern day vampire tale set in Santa Clara, California. Lucy{Dianne Wiest}, Sam{Corey Haim}, and Michael Emerson{Jason Patric} move there to live with their grandfather{Barnard Hughes} after Lucy's divorce.
Michael falls in with a group of kids his age whom he later discovers are vampires. Some are full vampires and some are on their way to being vampires. Kiefer Sutherland really makes a great vampire. Also though Jami Gertz as Star seemed like a good candidate for a vampire. She was not a full vampire yet and we never really see her become one in this movie. Michael was supposed to be her first kill but David decided to have Michael join them instead.
A honorable mention in being a great vampire also has to go to Chance Michael Corbitt who played Laddie, the boy on the milk carton. He only changed once or twice in the movie but for such a young person did a amazing job of it.
The Frog brothers are basically vampire hunters and while they are serious about what they do, they do lend comedy to the movie. My favorite part is when Laddie pops out, screaming from behind a bathroom door. Edgar shouts out "Holy ----, It is the attack of Eddie Munster!". I really laughed hard at this. Sam teams up with these two after figuring out his brother is becoming a vampire.
Lucy cannot figure out what is going on and at one points asks if everyone has gone crazy. She is being sought after by the real head vampire, Max{Edward Herrmann}. She does not know he is a vampire until the end of the movie.
Grandpa, it turns out is also a vampire. This is discovered at the very end of the movie. He takes a bottle out of the fridge and drinks from it. Then he says, "That is the one thing I could never stomach about Santa Clara, All the damn vampires."
This movies has many good scenes. Some are scary and some are funny. Some parts like seeing Laddie on the milk carton and then later learning he is one of the vampires give you pause. It made me wonder as I do sometimes what happens to missing children that are never found.
There is so much more I could say about this movie but I really don't want to ruin it for anyone. I have seen The Lost Boys now more than two dozen times and it still has not lost it's appeal for me.
The one memorable line from this movie for me was when David and Michael are fighting. David suggests that Michael give up, that he cannot win because David's blood is coursing through his veins. Michael just stares back at David, who thinks he has won, and says "Yeah, well so is mine!!"..
