A quality product with a few imperfections
Date of Review: Jan 2, 2006
The Bottom Line: This is one of the best wireless mice in existence. It looks great and it is extremely responsive. I consider it to be an upgrade from a MX518. Highly recommended.
Nearly everything about this mouse is perfect, and I consider it to be a significant upgrade from my Logitech MX518.
In particular, the on-the-fly DPI switch buttons are situated further away from the scrollwheel than with the MX518. This makes it much less likely that one will accidentally switch resolutions during intense gaming sessions such as those experienced in Quake 4 deathmatches.
There are a couple of issues I have with this mouse that I feel are worth mentioning.
#1) I would have wished for a mouse with a more rugged feel. You really DO NOT want to go bashing this mouse when you get frustrated. In this sense, the MX518 is more suited to violent gamers.
#2) Too much effort is required to press the scrollwheel inwards (for example, to pan around a browser window). It almost feels like the mouse doesn't want you to use this feature. So much effort is required, in fact, that I feel that this button is effectively useless for fast-paced games (although it's 'tolerable' for everyday use).
#3) The batteries have an extremely short lifetime. They recharge quickly if you set the switch to 'boost mode' on the charger/receiver, but I still feel like it's something I have to fret about.
