Outstanding Product - Truly Outstanding Support

I am PICKY about mice. I've probably tried a new one every 6 months or so, never quite happy with the one I'm currently using. I use primarily "office programs" on my laptop, in different locations, so need an optical mouse that works well on varied surfaces. I'm neutral about corded/cordless, although cordless has its advantages in the field. I also use Photoshop occasionally, and like to have very "fine" control over the cursor, which is not traditionally a viable option with cordless mice.

Enter the Logitech G7 "Gaming" mouse:
The laser technology makes operable on virtually any surface, and this mouse has the ability to change dpi reporting between 400, 800 (standard), and 2000 dpi. Fantastic for both fine control, AND "fast grabs" in Photoshop. The change is done with a well placed pair of buttons on the mouse, and LED indicators tell you what your current speed is, as well as battery level. You don't even need to load any software to make this control level work... In fact, if you do load the software, you actually get 5 levels of control...

In addition, this mouse is probably the most natural, comfortable mouse I have used to date. If the thumb rest were a bit deeper, it would be perfect, but I would be willing to bet that I like my thumb rests deeper than most, based on other reviews I’ve seen.

One slight inconvenience:
For whatever reason, they've made the battery in this mouse smaller (less capacity) than their others, so you need to be able to change it. They came up with an external USB charger with quick release battery only charger. (No charging stand for the whole mouse, just the battery... This is great: I HATE charging stands.) The mouse has a quick release button on the bottom: Pop the button, and the battery drops into your hand. Jam the other battery (the mouse comes with two) into the mouse and you're back in business. A fully charged battery lasts about 7 or 8 hours of mostly continuous use; probably less than that if you're actually using it for gaming though. The battery charger is somewhat cumbersome, so it's still not a perfect setup for travel, but I've been so happy with the mouse, I can live with the burden of another dongle for charging the battery.

I've had this mouse for about three or four months now. I got one of the first ones out of the gate, as I saw reviews before release, and thought it looked like a winner. So far (remember: I start to stray and have a new mouse at six months out...) I have not even paused at the mouse aisle in the store. At this point I think I'd only consider a different mouse if Logitech told me they had this same one, with a better capacity battery, or a slightly deeper thumb rest.

But Wait, There's More!
So all of the above was just to make you understand that it’s important to note that I'm really happy with my near-perfect mouse:
Last week, I realized that I had left the mouse receiver on my desk at work. When I got there the next day it was GONE... I think someone thought it was a USB drive, and lifted it... my near-perfect mouse was now useless.

I thought about driving to the store to get another one. (hmmm... replacement dongle, plus a backup mouse and two more batteries....) but at $99 that seemed a bit hasty, so I called their online store to see if I could BUY a replacement dongle. I told them what had happened, and asked to buy a replacement part:
Keep in mind, this was their STORE I called, not their Support line: The salesperson told me that he didn't see the part in his parts list, but that he could call corporate to see if there was one available. I expected never to hear from them again. About 30 minutes later, I got a phone message from him saying that he'd found the part, and that they would send it to me that afternoon, NO CHARGE. Three days later, there it was, in my mailbox, with an instruction sheet for pairing with the mouse, and a handwritten note to ignore one of the steps, as it's slightly different than their older products.

In many ways, I feel that support of this kind is more important than the product itself, and with so many companies hiding behind web and email and providing no support at all these days, I have to say that Logitech is OUTSTANDING, OUTSTANDING, OUTSTANDING.
