Great Remote for Multi-Device Setups; Jack of all Trades; Master of None
Date of Review: Jan 11, 2006
The Bottom Line: For the mid-level setup, this remote will work just fine. Simplicity it creates, and has just enough flexibility for you to use it in almost any setup.
If you have to turn on multiple devices just to play your XBOX 360, then this is the remote for you. It is no nonsense, slim sized, functional universal remote.
Setup: not bad, but being web-interfaced does rely heavily on your web connection speed and traffic at that time. I suggest programming after 10:00 pm to avoid the constant time-outs. Otherwise, very intuitive interface which will eliminate most of your guessing as to how to program the remote. However, the downfall of this is there is no manual programming allowed - everything is web based, so without the web, your task of programming becomes extremely difficult.
Secondly, fine tuning your activities is very limited. Logitech limits this and it could be frustrating if you have a fairly complicated entertainment system (games, TV, sound, etc.). If you are using a typical setup (Game, TV, Sound, switcher), then you should be okay. However, if you like to have a more flexible program, this may not be the remote for you. Let's face it: if your TV has too many features that you do not use on a daily basis (e.g. PIP, Frame Freeze, programming picture quality), then the Harmony 360 will take care of you.
Design: great looking, slim; not bulky; one of the only remotes I've seen where ALL buttons light up. Simple screen displays, though not customizable. Battery consumption seems to be average compared to a regular remote.
Function: Great - for most activities. My X360 involves my game, TV, AV Receiver (sound), and a A/V selector. I was surprised it supported my selector (Joytech), and with one button press, it had all things up and running, ready to play. Only thing I would like to add is to set the volume, but I guess that would require buying one of the $500+ remotes. All programmed activities functioned as programmed; no glitches so far. When I am done, a simple button press turns all devises off - Great for those late night Frag-till-your-Sleepy sessions (forgot to turn off the selector and sound system? For shame...)
Conclusion: If you want to get rid of multiple remotes, and your needs are fairly simple (just turning on and selecting the proper inputs, volume, channel) then this remote will work just fine. However, if you are a hardcore A/V-phile and like to fiddle around every session, this remote has limited applications. For most Average-Joe's the Harmony 360 Remote works just fine. I recommend it.
