Author's Review
First of all, the cordless 2.4 ghz is the coolest feature that I have ever seen in a joystick. It connects to its receiver in a matter of seconds (about 2) and you can be ready to taxi and take off that plane of yours.
It is very sensitive and responses very quickly. This feature comes very handy when you are taxiing your plane on the taxiway and you don't want to exceed those 10 knots/hr speed, the precision throttle control is really priceless. Even a throttle increase of about 0.1 mm is very responsive - that's how amazing it is!
It has 10 programmable buttons which means you can basically use your flight simulator (I use Microsoft flight simulator 2004) without even touching your keyboard. You can virtually program those basic flying options on your joystick and there you are! It has a rudder control (twist handle), "Precision" throttle control and a standard POV (point of view control) that moves in 8 different directions.
It has an aluminum shining base and a aluminum shine trigger with a rubber tripod shaped base which makes this joystick look very "futuristic" - i love that word :P It is very sturdy and tends to remain stable without moving a bit.
Here is an amazing fact: This joystick is priced at 70 USD originally at www.logitech.com however, i got it for 20 Canadian...That's enormous amounts of savings (almost 77%) and this was the time i decided to buy it ASAP. Also, the 2.4 Ghz cordless technology that they use in home telephones was another feature that convinced me to buy this product.
It is so easy to set up. Only a 3 step process. 1. Insert 3 AA batteries in the base of the joystick. 2. Plug the cordless 2.4 ghz receiver in an available USB port 3. Hit a button on your joystick and there, ITS SET UP. Since this joystick is plug and play, you don't need any special kind of drivers to install it. It uses the standard windows drivers that are already "built-in" to the system.
Enough goodies, WHAT'S BAD ABOUT IT?
The only feature that i think is not so much of help is the Standby/Sleep feature. If you don't use the joystick for a couple of minutes, it automatically goes to the standby mode meaning it won't respond to your movements. To activate it, simply hit a button on the joystick and its back to normal. This is especially bad when you are on autopilot and as soon as it goes on standby, OOPS, there goes your smooth cruising control. Well it shouldn't be bad if just press anybutton every 4-5 minutes.
The package comes with a cd-rom and you might be wondering if these are drivers?...NO, these are not the drivers. This cd contains the Logitech Wingman Profiler software that lets you load the downloaded game profiles from the logitech website. The logitech guys make these game profiles - just a configuration of all the game controls. You can download various game profiles from www.logitech.com (USA English) ---> Support--->Downloads.
