Product Review

the switch went after couple of y ears

by   mleisner ,   Apr 5, 2008

Pros:  Audible click when thermostat engages.

Cons:  Switch quality, no easy way to see if its on.

The Bottom Line:  Adequate, get if cheaper than the competition. Otherwise, consider others.

Overall Rating: 2/5 stars

Author's Review

I bought mine in walmarts for about $35 several years ago.
It worked fine. Then after about 2 years one of the switches on the front (which controls 900 watts) stopped working.

I find all oil filled heaters (I have 4) close to the same in heat output (they're the same size/construction, they use the same amount of power). The differences are the controls/thermostat, how to move them around, how hard they are to assemble, and do they have a place to stash the cord.

This heater has no place to wind the cord (except around the heater). The lights on the switches turn on and off when the thermostat turns on and off (which means if the thermostat is "off" you need to look closely at the switches to tell its turned "on" (IMHO this is a bad design). You should easily see at a glance whether its on or off.

The thermostat works fine, and makes an audible noise when it cycles.

So I just use it in 600 watt mode now...(I plug it in with other appliances, since I can't blow a breaker)

But the fact that a switch went after a couple of years -- I wonder what type of quality control they're using for parts.
Not sure if this was fluke or an inherent problem.

It was inexpensive, but you can find other heaters in the same price range if you look.
