Best all-in-one hair color on the market!
Date of Review: Feb 18, 2008
The Bottom Line: I would highly recommend this system to anyone who is looking for an alternative to going to the salon to have their hair colored and highlighted.
I have colored my hair more times that I could count with about every brand of hair color on the market and none compares to the quality or results that I have gotten from L'Oreal Couleur Experte System.
First of all like with any hair color you want to do an allergy test 48 hours before you plan on coloring so that you can catch any sensitivity you might have to the chemicals in the dye or bleach. Once you open the kit you will notice that there are two parts to the system, the first is an all over base color that you apply to all of your hair concentrating first on your roots that need a bit more processing time. This portion will be just the same as any other home hair color. After you wash out base color dye you need to towel dry and they recommend you even blow dry your hair to make sure that it isn't wet when applying the next step: the highlights! This is where Couleur Experte transcends the normal out of the box home hair color and makes your color pop. All of the needed highlighting supplies come in the kit, including a dish to mix and hold the "highlight frosting". All you have to do to prepare the "frosting" (named for the consistency of the highlight mixture) is combine the illuminating powder with the liquid cream developer and stir with the pointed end of the included highlighting wand. Once all of the powder is absorbed it should look like white frosting. At this point you need to style your hair the way that you normally wear it so that you can place the highlights in the areas that will bring out the shape and personality of your hair. Then take each piece of hair that you want to highlight one by one, wider pieces for chunkier highlights and narrower pieces for softer highlights, and cover each piece completely with frosting. Don't worry about letting the highlighted pieces lay on the rest of your hair because the bleach won't bleed due to it being very thick. Once you have left the cream on for the amount of time recommended wipe off part of one of the last pieces you highlighted to check if it is the desired shade and if you would like it lighter than leave on for a couple more minutes, but be careful not to leave on for longer than recommended or your hair can get dried out. Wash out the highlights with warm water and then put on the extra moisturizing conditioner that hydrates your hair and makes it very soft and shiny. You can then dry and style your hair as you normally would.
I would highly recommend trying out the Couleur Experte system if you are looking for a great home coloring system that gives you both great color as well as coordinating highlights.
