Bad design - Don't Buy!!

Author's Review

We purchased a Kitchen Aid microwave in November 2004 along with other Kitchen Aid appliances.  The handle of the microwave fell off in June of 2007.  We had to pay $100.00 to have the door replaced.  At the beginning of October, 2008, the handle fell off again!
My engineering background tells me that it’s poorly designed and Kitchen Aid/Whirlpool has not corrected the problem.  This time, they want $200 dollars to replace the door again!
The problem is with the attachment screws.  They are only ¼" long into a plastic handle.
I spoke with the service tech that came to replace the door who told me that he has changed "about 5 or 6 this year".
I wrote to Whirlpool, the parent company to Kitchen Aid, to inform them of the poor treatment we were receiving from Kitchen Aid, and to see if the design had changed, or if we were going to have to pay a couple hundred dollars every 12-14 months to keep our microwave running.  Whirlpool never responded.
The bottom line is Kitchen Aid and Whirlpool does not stand behind their defects.  They have successfully roped the consumer into thinking they make a quality product.  When in actuality, they don't.
