Author's Review
I have both the washer and dryer and was talked into paying the higher price for the HE3t or "Hetties" by my husband and son. I was very reluctant and quite a hard sell even after we brought them home. However, I was surprised. There really is a difference between this model and others.
The first thing I noticed was the huge capacity in both the washer and dryer, which cuts my washing time in half. The automatic dispenser handles all of my detergent product as necessary, saving even more time. I just load the drawer with everything at the beginning of the load and it is mixed and dispensed as required throughout the cycles. It requires way less soap than I was used to, washes the clothes quickly and effectively, then spins them until almost dry, reducing my drying time remarkably.
WHAT MY SON AND HUSBAND THINK (Yes they do their own laundry.)
My son likes it because he doesn't have to analyze his laundry, he just pushes the buttons for the type clothing he is washing (ie, whites, jeans) and the washer determines the correct settings for him. He also likes being able to add a garment after the load has started, which is a surprising feature on a front loader. He appreciates the sterilize feature for his gym and football uniforms which now come out white and fresh smelling. Something I was not able to achieve with the old washer. The available settings are too numerous to mention and are actually usable features, not just "bells and whistles."
My husband likes the large capacity for sports gear such as sleeping bags, snow mobile suits and Carhart work cloths. He also enjoys knowing this stuff will be spun at 72 miles per hour (1200 rpms), cutting down the drying time significantly. Previously this type of load needed to be taken to a commercial laundry. He wasn't happy that the doors couldn't be swapped. Our plumbing was already set up and required that the washer door's hinge be on the left and the dryer's on the right. He keeps planning to move the plumbing but its been almost a year and we have become accustomed to carrying the cloths around the opposing doors. You also have to be careful about the angle the adjustable feet are set at when installing the dryer. The automatic sensor in the dryer is near the door and the clothing needs to be tumbled toward it. Therefore, the dryer needs to be a bit higher in the back for this feature to work well.
We have had the two units for almost a year and just like them better and better. We haven't had any problems with performance or maintenance. I understand there is a Whirlpool version of the product which was not available when I bought mine. Otherwise, there really is no other comparable system available.
