Author's Review
As I was about to have my second child, I read all the reviews on tandem strollers. I had a 3 year old who was never keen about sitting in a stroller for long, and in the shopping carts it was always in & out, in & out. So I knew that a double stroller would not work for us, leaving a sit and stand as our best option. This design allows my older child to sit, stand, or walk on his own without stopping our momentum for long.
Though the price on this stroller was higher than most, I have found it to be worth every penny. The Ultralight is only 21 lbs, and is absolutely impressive in it's maneuverability. It rolls so smoothly and turns so easily. Since its accommodating two, its a little longer than a traditional stroller, but other than that, I really don't find it any larger than my old Graco. You may need more space in your trunk, so I highly recommend checking out the joovy website for all the specifications, as well as to read the instruction manual, so you understand what you are getting!
This stroller comes with any part you might need. The parent organizer, which is made of neoprene and slips over the push bar/ handle, has pockets & a cup holder and is wonderful! The car seat adapter supports the car seat with neoprene, not plastic, and is very sturdy and well made. You also receive an infant tray that clips to the front of the stroller once you are no longer using the car seat adapter. The canopy is of sturdy construction and fair size. Parts sold separately are a rain cover and sun filter.
The only assembly required is to snap in the front wheels, slip on the parent organizer, the car seat support or tray, and canopy. It took less than 10 minutes to assemble the pieces (no tools required) and read the instructions. Give yourself about 15 minutes or so of practice in pushing, folding, unfolding, etc. and you're ready to go! After a couple days of use, I found the stroller to be very easy to both set up and fold away. You do need two hands to fold the stroller.
There is durable foam covering the handle for both parent, and the rear-seat rider. My husband, who is 6' 3", pushes this stroller almost daily, and has never complained about the height of the handle. I am 5' 6" and find it to be a very comfortable height, as well as easy to push and turn.
The rear bench seat slides forward to access the storage basket. The seat is nicely padded, and has a seat belt with a crotch strap. The buckles are very simple for me to use. The platform for standing is very sufficient, and my child uses it standing both forward and backward.
The front seat has a five point harness, which is also very simple to use. It is well padded and the seat back has 2 recline settings (upright or recline). As you can see in pictures, this stroller does not have much area around the child's head for lounging back and to the sides. This is the only negative in my opinion, however I think it would only be an issue for the person who takes their children out for periods long enough that they must nap in the stroller. Since my child has never had reason to fall asleep in this stroller, I can't personally say how comfortably the child might sleep. The footrest also has two positions, horizontal or down. Since my youngest is still small, I don't have any issues with the footrest being too short, as I have seen mentioned as a concern.
A great feature is the car seat adapter piece which allows numerous infant car seat brands to be used with the stroller. Instead of snapping into place like a travel system stroller does, you set the seat down and use a webbing strap that clips together to hold the car seat in place. These webbing straps fold away in small pockets on either side of the front seat when not in use. Instead of rolling them into the pockets every time I put the stroller away, I just left the straps out and snap them together so they don't get in the way. The car seat sits nice and low & snug, and I never had any concern about the seat falling out or being wobbly.
The storage basket is not the easiest to access, and certainly isn't terribly large, but I wouldn't want to have a larger stroller just to make those changes. It is completely sufficient, in my opinion. In fact, the parent organizer is so great, I rarely need to use the basket.
My husband and I are cautious with our spending, but when something makes our lives this much easier, we're happy to pay the big bucks!
