J.Lo: I'm feelin' the latin explotion

by   im_too_cute ,   Nov 16, 2001

Pros:  This is a party album. You can dance your heart out to it.

Cons:  A few too many slow songs for my taste.

The Bottom Line:  Guys...this would make a GREAT Christmas present for your girlfriend or even your sister.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

A big step from Jennifer Lopez's "Fly Girl" days on In Living Color and a far cry from her day job as an actress. This album is soulful yet playful. If you like to shake ya booty or dance slow with your honey...this album is definetly for you.

I've never related to an album more than I have Jennifer Lopez's latest album aptly entitled "J.Lo". Why did she title it J.Lo you ask? Well...her fans gave her the nickname and it's like she is paying respect to her loving and caring fans.

In this album...songs like "Play" and "I'm Real" make you just want to get up and dance and sing along. But there are songs like "Secretly" and "Come Over" that would be great to listen to with your boyfriend/girlfriend. In other words there is a little something for everyone.

Comparing this album to her first album entitled "On The 6": Well, On The 6 was more of a experiment than an actual album. With this new album she knew what direction she wanted to go in and she went for it. You can tell that she really was focused on this album and almost every song has to do with relationships in some way. Which is good if you'd like to buy this for a female.

Not saying that guys won't like this album. If you are a fan of Jennifer's and you just love her booty shakin' sound and you like to dance then by all means...buy it. I just don't think you boys will like all the slow songs on the album. There are far too many for my taste and I'm a female.

With songs like "Carino" and the sweety slow "Si Ya Se Acabo" makes you thank God that Jennifer Lopez is latino.

The best part about this cd? Well...it comes with a bonus cd. The bonus cd includes one track but is worth all the work she put into making the extra cd. The song is called "Can't Believe" and if you are a female who has been done wrong by a man before...you'll love this song.

To top it off there are some great pictures of J.Lo adorning the inside sleeve of the album. All in all this album is worth your while. Trust me.

Track Listing:

01. Love Don't Cost A Thing: As I'm sure most of you have heard this song...I must say that this is ONE of the best songs on the album. If you listen to the lyrics very closely...you can tell she is singing about her now ex boyfriend Sean Puffy Comlbs a.k.a. Puff Daddy a.k.a. P. Diddy. Not too many people know this but while filming this video...Jennifer fell in love with her back up dancer that she just married last month.

02. I'm Real: Fair warning...this is NOT the remix with Ja Rule that I'm sure most of you J.Lo fans just love. This is the original version. Much more latino like of her. Faster than the remix version and yet a great song. She states "Show me off to all your friends and baby I don't care, just as long as you, tell them who I am, Tell them I'm the one that made you give a damn." yet again...another song about Puffy.

03. Play: Very dancy. If you are one of those people who sing into your hairbrush and dance in front of your mirror...you'll love this track.

04. Walking On Sunshine: No this is not a remake of the 80's hit. But none the less...an excellent song. It's an upbeat love song. If you've ever been in love or if you are in love now...you'll be able to relate to this song.

05. Ain't It Funny: This is actually her latest single. With the latino background music and her soulful voice heading it...you can tell she is really happy with this song. She actually wrote this song for her blockbuster movie "The Wedding Planner" but they decided to not add it onto the soundtrack at the last minute and she loved it so much that she added it onto this album.

06. Carino: This is a Spanish/English song. Carino is spanish of course but she sings the rest of the song in English. Go figure. Still a pretty good song.

07. Come Over: A very sexual song. The lyrics aren't as good as the music. Too slow for my taste.

08. We Gotta Talk: Very aggressive. If a guy has ever confused you...you'll relate to this song. Still a great dance song.

09. That's Not Me: Yet again...a song from a broken heart. With this song she's telling the guys all the things that just aren't her. She's saying "I love you but I can't baby you...if it's your momma you want..then you know just what to do." Very powerful but funny at the same time.

10. Dance With Me: Starts out latino and mixes into a cool hip hop/r&b sort or groove. Great if you're one of those girls who just love to shake ya booty.

11. Secretly: Another slow song. But a very sweet song. It's about being in love...but yet too slow for my taste.

12. I'm Gonna Be Alright: This is probably my favorite song on the album. Very aggressive. It's a very liberating song. Not fast enough to dance to though.

13. That's My Way: Yet against another aggressive song that I love so much. Occassionally you can hear Puffy singing in the background.

14. Dame (Tough Me): This song is half in Spanish and half in English. Plus Jennifer is singing with a guy. I'm not sure but it sounds like Marc Anthony and it doesn't say who it is on the album anywhere.

15. Si Ya Se Acabo: This song is completely in Spanish so I can't tell you exactly what the song is about since I do not know Spanish. But the beat is very good and you can dance to it.

Bonus Cd Track Listing:

01. Can't Believe: This song has a few select cuss words in it but all in all a GREAT song. It's about a guy cheating on his girl and all of his girlfriends friends know about it and she was blind the whole time. Great song.

This album is great for anyone. If you are a fan of Jennifer Lopez's or not. If you are latino or not. It doesn't matter. This album is great. It's got a little something for everyone. On a scale from 1 to 10...I would give this album a 10. Go out and buy it ASAP!
