J-14: A little bit of everything.....

Over the last year, I have subscribed to three magazines: YM, CosmoGirl!, and J-14. I would have to say that I probably look more forward to receiving J-14 in the mail every month than the other two magazines because this magazine has something for everybody.

Cool Columns (the regulars)
Here are the articles/columns that are regularly in the magazine:
*Scene Everywhere - Cameras catch up with all your favorite stars at unexpected places. I think this part is retarded
*Is It True? - Rumors that readers have asked about are answered. One of my favorites
*You Asked - Questions readers asked are answered. Another favorite.
*How Random - Interesting little clips about cool stars. I don't really care for this section
*Breaking News - News and updates on stars. I sort of just flip by this part when reading..
*Concert Tour - Tour information. This is good because you can see if a tour is coming to your town.
*What's Hot - the "hippest" (yea, right) trends. I don't really like this because I don't think people should follow trends. They should wear what they want and look how they want to.
*Song Lyrics - Words to new songs. I love this section. I know the words to my favorite songs!
*Calender - It's a Calender!
*Before They Were Stars - Pictures of celebrities before they became famous. This is really cool..
*It Really Happened - True stories about some of today's hottest stars. I like this section, it shows the better side of stars.
*Music Preview - New stars on the music scene. Clues me in to all the new musicians out there.
*Movie Preview - New movie information. I will be running to the theaters to see these movies when they come out.
*TV Preview - What's hot on TV. Now I know about all the good shows!
*Your Hot List - Who readers chose as the best in pop, rock, rap/r&b, acting. Also the "hottest" guys/girls.
*AND MORE!

There's also horoscopes (I'm really in to astrology, so I like this part.), fortune telling (this is fun to play with friends), embarrassing moments (really funny things that actually happened), winning looks
(this part is O.K.), contests (hey, what's better than free contests?!), etc.

More Details
J-14 can be found almost anywhere that sells magazines. If you don't buy a subscription, each magazine is $2.99. A whole year subscription is $14.95 (at least, that's what I paid!). The average J-14 issue is 110 pages long.
J-14 comes out about once every month. You can find this online at J14.com. The people on the cover range from Eminem to Shakira to Britney, so it covers a wide range of music. It also talk about TV (The Osbournes are featured in this issue), and movies (Spy Kids 2, Austin Powers 3, XXX).
Some features in this issue were "Intimate Details: the stars reveal surprising secrets you never knew!", Linkin Park and why they hate being famous, and much more.
This magazine has a little bit of something for everybody. It even has glossy posters in the center of most issues. I like to hang these on my walls. My favorite parts are the horoscopes, embarrassing moments, the You Asked section, and the Is It True? section.
J-14 is geared mainly towards teens ages 12-18, and is probably for girls, but there are parts where guys have submitted their ideas and comments in the magazine as well.

The Downside
Although this is a great magazine, in my opinion, there is a downside (there almost always is).
There are way too many ads in this magazine. In the current issue, I counted 20 full-page ads, 2 two-page ads, and a few 1/2 and 1/4 page ads. That's a lot of ads for a 110 page magazine!
Also, most of the makeup and clothes they feature are too much money for me, and most people I know to afford. Yeah, the stars do have millions of dollars to spend on an outfit, but that doesn't mean that everybody who isn't famous does!
Lastly, I would have to say that the magazine is fairly expensive compared to other teen magazines. Compared to YM, for example, the news stand price per issue is the same ($2.99), but the subscription price for 12 issues is much less than J-14.

Overall
Overall, I would say that J-14 is a very good magazine. With its range of topics, contests, posters, and great articles, J-14 tops the rest.
