We purchased the Ionic Pro full-size air purifier from Amazon.com. We have three indoor pets, which was the primary reason for the purchase, but also to give the air a cleaner feel and smell. Because this product didn't require replacement filters put it at the top of my list.
We have a relatively new house that is now starting to get dustier, and it's difficult to keep it perfectly clean. The air purifier cuts down on SOME dust and pet hair. It's not perfect, but I have noticed a significant difference.
I have been running it for about three hours each day for about a month, and it does the trick. Keep in mind that it doesn't eliminate the need for dusting or brushing your pets, but it does take care of the excess.
Since I only run it for a few hours a day, the brightness of the light is irrelevant to me.
It's in a room that is about 16' x 20', and is open to adjacent rooms. The smell of ozone that some describe is not a factor. It makes the air smell clean and fresh to me. However, I did try it for about an hour in a much smaller room with the door closed, and I noticed the smell. You might want to leave the door open in that case, or purchase a model for smaller rooms.
I have not yet cleaned the permanent filters, but I looked at them, and they have quite a bit of debris caught on the outside of the blades. I am very, very happy that I don't have to purchase replacement filters. Since the cleaning alert hasn't happened yet, the machine is still completely silent. Noise has not been an issue so far, as others have stated.
If you follow the directions included, you should have no negatives with this appliance. DO keep it at least a foot away from the walls; DON'T run it while you have candles or a fire burning (or your husband is cooking!); and be sure to clean it regularly, etc. And don't expect it to solve your dusting problems single-handedly.
This product works precisely the way it should, and definitely helps with allergies and stale air. It makes the air feel clean and fresh, when used properly. I no longer automatically wake up with a sinus headache as I did before using this product!
