Michael Jackson's Invincible Album

by   qualityratings ,   May 16, 2002

Pros:  Speechless, The Lost Children, Don't Walk Away and Unbreakable.

Cons:  The only cons are the reviews that say this CD isn't worth it's while!

The Bottom Line:  Perfection, it's amazing. Not the traditional Michael Jackson but a different one, however his next complete solo album will be MJ the King Of Pop again!

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

1. Unbreakable (6:25): Is direct, hard core edge, however it has some of the Off The Wall Michael Jackson mix in the chorus. This would have been a definite first single, at hit that you can’t get out of your head. Fast and Furious.

2. Heartbreaker (5:10):Heartbreaker is a very chunky beat, with a strong story line. A lot of hard vocals, and MJ’s traditional sounds.

3. Invincible (4:45): Everyone thought that this was an ego driven song, but it turns out to be about a girl that he can never have. It’s serious and fun at the same time. Another hard core been mixed with a hip-hop edge.

4. Break Of Dawn (5:32): Takes you back the to the 80’s, a Thriller and BAD album mixture. Soft, yet isn’t really slow, it’s a mixture of R&B/Funk. Easygoing, not a passionate as people say, but almost a playful love.

5. Heaven Can Wait (4:49):An airy easygoing mixture of modern soft rock and 80’s R&B. It’s flowing and easy to listen to, soft and vulnerable.

6.You Rock My World (5:39): Doesn’t the first ten seconds of this song remind you of Bee Gees Staying Alive. This is a fun funky beat. Soft vocals, mixed this some ruff edge. It’s under rated, but shouldn’t have been released as the first single.

7.Butterflies (4:40):Everyone one seems to rate this song as one of the best on the album. I think the sound could have potential, but the lyrics, no, I’m not in favour of them. Once again MJ didn’t write this song, and it seems to be missing something. The only song that MJ didn’t write that was amazing was Man In The Mirror off the BAD album. All the other writers don’t have the heart.

8. Speechless (3:18): Short and Sweet. My personal favourite along side of The Lost Children. MJ calls out for love that’s not of this world. Yes, it may seem as if his head is in the clouds, however it’s a nice release from the everyday hostility that we face. Soothing and repeatable. It seems as if he left his soul in this song.

9. 2000 Watts(4:24): Is a fun song, doesn’t have any real story line, just something to blow off steam on. Instead of taking things so seriously. He gives it a rock edge mixed with computerized sounds. The old and new together.

10.You Are My Life (4:33): Doesn’t seem to actually fit on this album, it’s one of those songs you can never remember it’s track. It’s sweet and soulful however, it is quite nice. It just doesn’t seem to have it’s place on an album titled Invincible. Shout off the cry single and on the Vinyl version would have made this spot perfectly on the CD version. You are my life would have been better if traded spots with Shout on the Cry single. However it’s still a nice addition.

11.Privacy (5:05): Is strong and aggressive, hostile and sends a message loud and clear. It does seems to have a bit of the HIStory albums edge. However it still seems to be a slightly new sound for MJ.

12.Don’t Walk Away (4:25): Has a lot of feeling in it, the song seems to call you. The ending is powerful yet subtle, and has a good hold. In Don’t Walk Away, MJ makes it seem as if the only thing in the world he needs is this love he lost.

13.Cry (5:01):Another one that ,everyone seems to love , but I don’t rate it too high. The lyrics are hollow and the music is tin-y. There’s no emotion, I thought this is one of MJ’s worst, then I looked at the writers, not him. I think there would be a big different in the quality of this song if MJ himself helped write it. He’d put the soul back in the song.

14.The Lost Children (4.00): I feel in love with this song the minute I heard it. Some say the Chorus is corny, but it seems sweet and straight to the point. What other ways could you write about lost children. You can only make a tribute, and this is definitely something to be proud of. When he enters the chorus for the first time it seems to take you, if you just close your eyes and listen. Powerful and almost dramatic, with the children joining in on the last chorus, it explains the meaning more then the words of the song itself do.

15.Whatever Happens (4:56): Carlos Santana makes a very dramatic entrance in this Spanish/rock song. His seriousness comes out in this song, it’s a definite hit. Would have made a wonderful single, very radio friendly. You have your Spanish cut mixed with the north American eager rock. An amazing collaboration. MJ uses a lot of highs and lows, the change overs’ are excellent.

16.Threatened (4:19): Takes you back to thriller, but leaving behind the fun. This is almost a message MJ is trying to get across to people. They seem him as a monster, but not what he really is. It’s a soft chunk beat, with a bit of mic play-up. Just a nice addition that’s different from the rest of the tracks.

On the whole this album is diversified. The ratings are fare too low, it’s definitely a five out of five. Even though it doesn’t match his older Albums which would have set at about 10 out of 5. There’s no other artist that comes close to this Album in 2001. Michael Jackson’s past achievements over shadow this album. You’ve seen the best and will only settle for the best. Try and forget about MJ’s other albums and compare invincible to any other album released in 2001, there’s no comparison, it’s just amazing. He mixes computer and genuine instruments to make a sophisticated sound. See any other artist that can make electronic sound this well blended? Highly Recommended.
