Very Easy!

My husband and I have always used either an individual accountant or H&R Block to prepare our taxes because we thought it would be really difficult to use a tax software. We have always had to use long form and have had some different types of income that weren't W-2, so we never really trusted ourselves to file our taxes properly. This year, we chose to give TurboTax a try instead of paying the usual $240 to $275 to have our taxes prepared. It was really reasonably priced compared to professional accountants and tax stores in our area. I usually keep the finances in order at our house, so I started it last week thinking it would take me two weeks to get it finished. I was done in all of two hours! The program prompted me for all the forms I needed and for information I needed to gather, included my long list of deductions and miscellaneous income. It asked one question at a time and kept me from getting overwhelmed, and it allowed me to go back and correct something very easily if I transposed numbers or left something out. It was nice to see a running tax total (or refund) at the side of my screen and watch the number go down with each deduction. It also runs a check on your entire return and notifies you if you have any mistakes to be corrected. I will say that you really should have everything together and organized before starting so that you don't get frustrated and have to search for things in the middle of filing. At the end, you just print your forms and if you need to, write a check, and drop it in the mailbox, or you can submit it via the Internet. We will definitely use TurboTax from here on out and save ourselves two hundred dollars!
