Ice Age: Could It Be This Years Killer Animation?

Well, well, well...I just got done re-installing Windows 98, and I was busy configuring everything back to the way it was(I’m still getting use to everything, cause it’s so different from what it was before I took Windows 98 off...now I’m trying to get my AIM updated to it’s newer version), when I remembered about writing a review on a movie I just saw today...which was the newest Animated film out, Ice Age. I had seen the same preview for this movie with the Squirrel trying to get the Nut almost 11 times maybe, because every movie I’d go see, that preview would show...and every time I’d laugh because the film looked like it was going to be real good.

Ok so what do you get when you cross a Saber Tooth Lion, Blubberin’ Sloth, and a Wooly Mammoth? One heck of a herd. Ok before going on about that, there is a camp of humans who have killed off half of the Saber Tooth Lion’s pack, and the leader of the pack wants to get revenge on the baby by killing it and eating it. When the pack raids on the human camp and the baby’s mother runs off with it to save it, she eventually has to jump off a waterfall to save her baby.

Here’s where the Blubberin’ Sloth and Wooly Mammoth come into play, their names are Sid the Sloth, and Manny the Mammoth. Sid is left all alone by his family again while they migrate, and Manny doesn’t want to migrate and so they meet up and Sid starts following Manny. When Manny and Sid come to the river, they see the women, who is barely able to hold on to the side with the baby against the flowing current. Before being swept away and dying from exhaustion(most likely, who could live through all she went through), she lays the baby(which has no name throughout the movie besides nicknames and such given by Sid or Manny) on a rock in hopes that Manny will take care of it for her.

Ok so here’s where the Saber Tooth’s come into play again. Since the leader wants the baby so bad, he sends one of his little minions named Diego to go and fetch the baby. When he has no such luck, he just decides to act like he had befriended Manny and Sid, who were on their way to returning the baby to the traveling humans back to their original settlement, and lead them into an ambush by the other Saber Tooths.

Well...on the way to returning the baby to it’s rightful herd(as they liked to call it), the blundering trio get into all sorts of trouble such as running into a thing of lava, and the most entertaining part of the movie to me, the part where the baby is sliding down a series of ice slides in an ice cave and Diego, Sid, and Manny are all sliding behind him to get him back before something happens.

Basically...the whole movie revolves around Manny, Sid, and Diego bringing the baby back to it’s herd(although Diego has different plans), and along the way is the most humorous adventure I’ve ever seen. With Ray Romano as the voice of Manny, a lot of the comedy from his show Everybody Loves Raymond could easily be seen through the Wooly Mammoth as his jokes and insults through the movie were hilarious. Also, the guy who voiced Sid the Sloth sounds very closely related to Bob off of the show that follows Everybody Loves Raymond on Monday nights, Becker. I don’t know who actually plays the character Bob on Becker, nor do I know if it was him who voiced Sid, but to me the Sloth sounded almost exactly like him.

This is the most entertaining animated movie I’ve seen since Monsters Inc. or even Shrek and also has a lot more funny parts to it than Shrek and Monsters Inc. combined had. At the movie theater I went to, the place was FULL of parents and their various aged kids(and I mean the place was packed, and the movie’s been out for like a week or so), and they enjoyed it a lot as they laughed throughout the WHOLE movie. Now that’s what I call a good movie, one that can make kids laugh and even make parents laugh. Most of the parents at the movie laughed along with their children, not just acting like they’re enjoying it so they won’t hurt their kids feelings, but were actually LAUGHING at the same parts the kids were.

Overall
Ice Age is a must see, especially if you have kids under the age of 12(or those lovable 40 year olds who are kid at heart), because there is lots of comedy, along with a funny story line. And for the parents reluctant to go, I can gurantee you won't regret going. Sure it's rated "G" and it looks completely kiddy, but what is wrong with that? Nothing and so I hope you take my advice(if you haven't already seen it), and go check out this movie ASAP!!
