Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac Upright Vacuum

This is THE answer to cleaning your carpet and rugs!  Maybe it is the visits from our 2 y/o grandson who loves those “box drinks” especially the red fruit punch ones  or the drudgery of going back and forth to the big box store to rent a machine whose working condition would vary each time, that convinced me the time was now, to purchase our own carpet cleaner.

I was impressed to see the Hoover’s Model FS914-900 so highly rated  on Epinions.com, This was a definite time saver in making my purchase. 

Hoover’s Model F5914-900 assembly is pretty straight forward; parts go together quickly without any missing pieces.  Do take the time to read the instructions.  In my case the removal of the recovery tank (lower tank) was a mystery of life until I heeded my own advice and read the darn booklet.  From there on it was full speed ahead to clean carpets and more.

Calling it a  "Steam" Cleaner is a stretch. According to the marketing folks; uses hot tap water in holding tank then water is heated by the radiant heat from the motor. When touching a newly cleaned area of carpet it feels cool. No warmth noted at all.

However, this does not seem to affect the cleaning capabilities in any way at all.


A secluded  section of the hallway was chosen as the area for my first test run.  No furniture to move, low traffic area and out-of-sight from would be supervisors.  First off, I was impressed with the mobility of this machine, no long cumbersome hoses to drag around on heavy tanks of water to spill, this baby was about the same size as a vacuum cleaner.

While following the carpet cleaning instructions…squeeze trigger, slowly push forward, slowly pull back…release trigger and slowly push forward and slowly pull back.  And then repeat.   I was practically pleased with the immediate results this baby works!!  I like the automatic cut off when the recovery tanks gets full. The design makes emptying a breeze…no spills, fool proof even for me.

It is an easy learning curve to clean the carpet without over saturating…drying time is kept to a minimum due to the excellent water extraction capabilities of this little machine.  Clean up is a snap; recovery tank is simply dump and rinse.  Bottom of unit is wipe and quickly hand clean the row of 5 rotating brushes and this unit is ready for its next job.

After declaring my hallway experiment a 100% success and it was in no time at all that I was on to other rooms in the house.  This has truly become one of those…why did wait so long to get this thing.
