Author's Review
For years we had a humidifier that created water vapors by heating the water to turn it into a fine mist. Living in the Northeast where the winters are very dry, most people need to get a humidifier or their lips, skin and throats will dry up. Also it is recommended for asthma and people with upper respiratory problems.
We had Biologe (SP) humidifier that did a great job at putting moisture back into a room. There was only one problem; it also did a great job a ruining my ceilings. Wherever we put the humidifier, there would be a giant wet spot on the ceiling under it each morning.
So we decided to get a cool mist humidifier. So, what is the difference between them? The warm air models have a heating coil to warm the water while the cool mist evaporates water into the air by use of a filter/wick, which must be replaced after a few months of use. Since both fill the air with water particles, we decided to go Cool!
The Solution:
Enter, the Honeywell 3.0 gallon Cool Moisture Humidifier. The Honeywell uses a cooling process to create the evaporation in an accelerated fashion. The mist comes out cool, like a early morning dew.
This larger capacity model will put out 3 gallons of natural moisture a day and is controlled with a humidistat that will automatically control the room humidity. When completely filled, it will run up to 15 hours until the water run out and will cover a room up to 1500 Square feet.
There are three speeds, a high speed for humidifying large areas fast and a low speed for quiet nighttime operations. The system will automatically shut off, when the water runs out or when the room reaches the required humidity level. A light will also signal when a refill is needed.
The only maintenance that is required is to change a filter and of course put in the water. The one issue that I have with this unit would be that it is difficult put the water canister back on the unit after you fill it up with water. Not a big deal, but something to consider.
Performance:
Since we have been using the Honeywell, we have been quite pleased. We don't wake up with that dry skin feeling and its great not to have to fill it up each night. We usually keep it on the low fan setting and it can last up to three nights.
