What's NOT to like with the HP Photosmart D7460?
Date of Review: May 31, 2008
The Bottom Line: As an everyday workhorse, this printer would be excellent. As a photo printer, its ease of use makes it wonderful. The whole family could use it... and, it's WIRELESS!
Just because I already had a little workhorse (HP D1420 printer) didn't mean I wasn't looking... you know how it is! I had already seen the Photosmart D7460 at my local Staples store and had been impressed by the demos printed with the 6 cartridge Vivera ink system and by the fact that it could be installed via USB or "wireless." But when the HP Shopping site advertised a sale on this beauty, along with nice discounts on ink and photo paper, I could no longer resist! I entered my order on their website Wednesday evening for the $124.99 printer plus a number of other items (total order with tax was $301) with free shipping on a 5-7 day schedule only to be surprised on Saturday morning with the complete Fed Ex delivery of all my goods!
You need to know that I have used the HP Home and Office Store a few time previous to this order and am truly impressed with their service. I once ran very low on ink for my previous printer so ordered a cartridge at 10 P.M. and received it the next day at 2 P.M. with FREE overnight shipping! That's service... but back to this surprising printer.
There are other excellent reviews of the D7460 on Epinions and I agree with their positive remarks. But I want to voice my amazement and gratitude for the very excellent photo quality and ease of printing, for the touch screen capability and shear enjoyment at being able to use the printer without turning on the computer, and last but not least at the WIRELESS functionality. It works like a charm and makes life really fun! (Of course you can use the USB hookup (you'll need your own cable) or Ethernet/wired network if you desire.)
Don't be afraid of the setup, it's not complicated. Just read and follow directions so you don't plug in any cable before its time, so to speak. It probably takes just as long to download the drivers to the computer as it does to get the hardware set up. It does take a little more time than expected to print off the first test page but it's all worth it. It prints fast - photos and regular pages - and the Vivera ink is really a step above the rest. HP sells a little combo set of ink and 4X6 photo paper that's a pretty good deal, too.
The only situation where I was left "holding the bag" is my old digital camera's memory card doesn't fit any of the slots on the printer. Oh well, HP Shopping site, here I come again. Got any good deals on digital cameras?
