A big upgrade from inkjet

We have three boys in school that are frequently writing reports and doing school projects that demand color printing. My wife and I also need a lot of color printouts for correspondence, hobbies, and day to day tasks. We got tired of dry and empty inkjet cartridges and decided to try a color laser printer.

At the same time, I wanted a networked printer so that the whole family could share one printer and we could then focus on just that printer for purchasing supplies. Our 2605DN printer is connected with cat 5 network cable to out wireless netgear router. This router has wireless connections to two laptops and two desktop machines running windows XP SP2. The printer was simple to add to the router. The printer drivers were simple to add to all computers as well. One computer's anti-virus s/w caused the printer s/w to take a very long time to install, but the installation was otherwise uneventful.

We've had the unit for about 4 months now. The output has been flawless. Colors are excellent for most purposes. A true photo printer produces more accurate output color wise, but this HP 2605DN is great for a general purpose color printer.

Occasionally - perhaps twice since we've owned the unit, we will attempt to send a document to the printer and nothing happens. In this case we power cycle the printer and the document is quickly printed. Given our network configuration, this is a minor annoyance for the convenience.

The unit is large and heavy enough that we just located it in our front closet - out of sight. This is central to all computers so it is also convenient for us. It would dominate a desk.
